Dear Sir/Madam,
I am applying for the Master’s Translation Studies programme and I am certain that it will help me to find myself in both professional and personal contexts. Moreover I especially appreciate the wide range of the offered modules and the freedom in making a study plan. Last but not the least, I am very curious about different approaches to the translation techniques at the foreign university.
I am currently studying Master’s Degree programme in Germanic Philology at Sumy State University. My driving passion to languages and solving problems has enabled me to enter various competitions in these fields where I often end up in prize-winning places. I am a part of different researches. I’ve already written many theses on different topics such as feminine and masculine humor in English-language media discourse, STEM-based approaches in learning foreign languages and others during my studying. Moreover I took part in different volunteering programmes where I had an opportunity to feel productive, fulfilled and eager to go forward; acquaint with different people from many countries; and deepen my knowledge about the peculiarities of their national identity. Giving back is the paramount to finding the meaning in your life. There are two things humans need in their life in order to feel satisfied: to make progress and to give back. These two actions help me find the satisfaction and the true sense of the purpose. Learning is crucial to the human experience. I repute, that we need to feel like contributing to something larger than we are. Why? Because the contribution produces the sense in our lives. If all our actions were designed to serve us and only us, what would the point be?
I don’t want to be just successful , I don’t want just to make a mark or have a legacy. The answer for this question for me is that I want to fulfill the highest expression of myself as a human being. And I’m pretty sure that Harvard University can help me to realize all my expectations and evolve myself by bringing up to the new level of the world perception and developing not only my hard skills, but also soft ones. The new prism of the educational process will expand my engagement with the art and craft of the translation to encompass questions raised by different genres, media, and disciplinary questions and practices. I believe that all the approaches given to me by this University will further develop my critical and creative thinking. I am confident that my experience in America could be a good starting point for my ultimate further step in my life – working and helping people on the BBC news. I want all my efforts, knowledge and experience, having gained during all my educational and practice periods, to be useful for other people not only in my native land, Ukraine, but also abroad. Nowadays it is very important to receive high-quality information quickly and on time in order to be aware of the situation happening in the world. This information can save the lives of others and help you find the way out of difficult situations. And taken into account the pandemic situation we are suffering from, it’s vitally important to inform people about the recent changes and investigations all over the world in order to help them in the struggle against this ruthless virus. That’s the goal in my life for the present.
I am the best candidate for this university as my work experience and educational background show my passion for this programme. Conversely I hope to contribute my talents and efforts to your university and become a worthy member of the inspiring, creative, and cosmopolite environment of one of the largest American universities.
Thank you in advance for your consideration .
Ann Brown.
