Lesson topic «All about me!» (5-th grade)

Purpose: to form students' key competencies:

- ability to learn: to teach students to organize their educational activities;

- general cultural: to use the acquired knowledge, to teach to express coherently;

- information and communication: to teach students to analyze the necessary information;

- social: productively cooperate in pairs, maintain relationships with others;

- health care: take care of your health.

Course of the lesson:

I. Preparation for the perception of a foreign language environment

1. Greetings:

 T: Hello, children! I am glad to see you. 

How are you?

 P: …

 T: Sit down, please! I am your new teacher. Let's get to know each other.

Let me introduce myself:  my name is _________. I am ____ years old. I was born in London many years ago. London is the capital of Great Britain. This is an ancient city. It is located on the banks of the Thames. But I know that _________ is also an ancient city, there is the Sea of Azov, good people and gymnasium No. 2. I flew from London in a large orange balloon. What else can I tell about myself? I like to travel, read, I love children and animals. I have cats, a dog, rabbits, pigeons and a crocodile in the pool at home.

Before we start the lesson, I'd like to give you five simple rules. Listen carefully! Here they are. (The teacher shows the presentation and comments on it).

The first rule is –English Only!

What I mean?

At an English lesson we speak only English. Not Ukraine. Not Russian.

The second rule says – No Phones!

When you enter an English class, you leave your phones in a magic box. I'll give them back at the end of the lesson.

The third rule is – Silence!

Keep Quiet! When the teacher speaks, there should be silence in the classroom.

And here is the fourth rule – Raise a Hand!

Before you ask a question or answer a question, raise your hand. I`m not going to ask anyone who won`t raise his hand. Is that clear?

And finally, the fifth rule – Listen to Others!

I want you to listen to each other and not interrupt.

T: Let`s sing a song and begin our lesson!

The song "Hello" is heard; the children repeat the movements and words after the teacher.

2. Motivation of educational activity, message of the lesson topic:

Today in the lesson we get to know each other. Let's have a fun and useful lesson!

The topic of our lesson  is «All about me!»

And now each of you will receive a small star and tell about yourself one of the most important, in your opinion, fact. This is how we get to know each other.

(The teacher distributes star templates, the children write one fact about themselves on them and answer in turn).

II. The main part of the lesson:

1. Introduction of new lexical material:

The teacher takes out an animal toy. 

Т: This is a tiger. His name is Tom. Tom wants to meet you.

The teacher takes turns approaching the children with a toy and repeating:

T: Hello, my name is Tom. What's your name?

 P: …

T: How are you?

 P: …

T:  Where are you from?

P: …

T:  Where do you live?

P: …

2. Consolidation of the studied lexical material:

Pupils repeat after the teacher, ask each other and answer, passing each other a toy.

3. Sport`s minute:

T: And now you and I will rest a bit and learn how an ordinary shark family lives. Stand up!

The song "Baby Shark Dance" is heard. Children repeat movements and words.

4. Exercises for memory training:

Т: Good! You are all great! Let's learn the rhyme. (for example).

Father, mother, sister, brother,

Hand in hand with one another.

III. The end of the lesson:

      Reflection

1) Did you like our lesson today?

2) What did you learn today?

3) Which part of the lesson did you like the most? Why?

T: Our lesson is over.

The song "Good-bye" sounds.

T: Stand up. Have a nice day. Good-bye!
