Theme: At School. Revision. Letters Rr, Hh, Ff, Mm.

Learning Outcomes:

  • to revise classroom objects vocabulary
  • to practice classroom instructions
  • to present and practice the letter sound for a
  • to practice letters Ff, Hh, Mm, Rr and their sounds
  • to focus pupils on the value of helping each other

 

Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  • name the classroom objects;
  • name initial sounds in the words;
  • find out classroom objects in the picture;
  • distinguish letters f, h, m, r;
  •  read words and word-combinations with sounds f, h, m, r.

Basic Competences:

  • Language Competence: pupils identify classroom objects. Pupils identify letters, their sounds and read some words
  • Mathematical Competence: pupils solve a picture puzzle.
  • Social and Civic Competences: pupils learn that we should help other people.

 Language

  • New language: fat rat
  • Recycled language: cat, black
  • Receptive language: helping each other

Materials:

  • CD, classroom objects, flashcards with letters, classroom objects, plate with sand or semolina flour.

  1. Guessing game “The Key Hole”

T. shows the flashcards with the classroom objects through the key hole. Ss have to guess what it is.

  • What’s this in the key hole?
  • Is it a rubber?
  • Is it a ruler?
  • It’s a pencil.
  1. Classroom language

T. gives an instruction to the Ss. Ss have to demonstrate it. Then some Ss give the instructions to their classmates.

  • Open the pencil case, please.
  • Close the bag, please.
  • Pass me a pencil, please.
  • Sit at your desk, please.
  1. Physical warming up

  1. Practicing letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Tt, Rr, Hh, Ff, Mm

T. shows flashcards with letters, Ss name the letter, its sound, words, that start that letter. Then Ss write the letter in the sand or in the semolina flour.

- Aa:[ꬱ]  apple, Annie

-Bb: [b] boy, bat

- Cc [k] cat, car

- Tt [t] turtle, tiger

- Rr [r] river, rainbow, rain, rabbit

- Hh [h] hat, horse, house

- Ff [f] fish, frog, flakes

- Mm [m] man, mango, mouse

  1. Pre-reading PB p.106 ex.1

T gives Ss time to look at the picture. Elicit what they can see in the classroom:

  • What can you see?
  • A desk, a ruler, a board.

 T points to the pictures (hat, map, five, red), practice the pronunciation of the words.

T asks Ss to find images on the right in the picture.

  • The hat is on the desk.
  • The map is on the wall.
  • The five is on the board.
  • The chair is red.

T says the initial sounds and the words: [f] five, [m] map, [h] hat, [r] red.

T invites Ss to repeat.

  1. Reading

T holds up wordcards with the words at, cat, bat, fat, rat, mat.

First, T. asks Ss to read the syllable –at, then match it with sounds f, h, c, b, r, m:

T repeats the activity three or four times.

  1. Reading ex.4, p.107

T. reads the words. Ss repeat the words in chorus as a whole class.

T. invites Ss to read to the whole class one by one and then in pairs.

T changes the pairs 2-3 times.

  1. Summing up

T asks Ss to write their favourite word or word combination and show it to their classmates.

Ss read and name friends’ favourite words.
