Hobbies and Parties (Form 5)
Objectives:
- to practise students' listening, writing, reading and speaking skills;
- to train the usage of the lexical material in practice;
- to widen students' knowledge about the celebration of different parties in English - speaking countries;
- to develop their memory and critical thinking, ability to work in teams.
Equipment: a laptop, a projector, individual cards, a box, invitations.
Procedure
I. Introduction
1. Greeting
T: Good morning, boys and girls! How are you?
Ss: We are fine (great, super, Ok), thank you.
Children, I've got a box, but I don't know who brought it. Here is a note.
2. Announcing the topic and objectives of the lesson
T: The topic of our lesson is "Hobbies and Parties". Today we are going to summarize information you have learnt before and we'll do some exercises to improve your English, watch and discuss some video materials, listen to some interesting riddles to enlarge your knowledge and make the invitation to party.
3. Warming-up
T: Do you like parties? What parties do you know? Do you like to play games? Do you like reading comic books? (Students answer.)
II. The Main Part of the Lesson
1. Vocabulary Revision
T: Look at the screen, please! Your first task is to match the names of the parties in Ukrainian and in English.

2. Game "Guess riddles"
T: Now I'm going to read riddles. Listen to the descriptions of the hobby and party. Name it.
1. This can be an indoor or outdoor activity. You need a ball to play. Are you tall? Do you like jumping? This is good for you! (volleyball)
2. People decorate the house with bright lights and ornaments. They exchange postcards and gifts. Children like this holiday very much, because they always find presents early in the morning. (Christmas)
3. The traditional colours of this holidays are orange, black and yellow. Children dress up in costumes of skeletons, goblins, black cats and spiders. There are many lanterns in the streets when it is dark. (Halloween)
4. Some people like to dance. Sometimes they go to special dance clubs or dance at home or go to the disco clubs. (dancing)
5. People like listening and singing songs. Some of them can go to special music schools. (singing)
6. People can travel by car, by plane, by train or on foot. They like to visit different cities and counties. It helps them to learn history, geography, traditions. (travelling)

7. Watching a video-film "Parties" and discussing children's hobbies
T: Let's remember some British parties for children. Are you ready?

S1: It's a Halloween party.
T: What do children do at this party?
S2: They dress up as ghosts, witches, devils. Then they visit their neighbours' houses. They ask: "Trick or treat?"
T: What is the party?
S3: It's an Outdoor party.
T: How do they celebrate an outdoor party?
S4: They often have a picnic in a garden or near a river. They swim and play. Sometimes they sleep in tents after these parties.
T: What is the party?
S5: It's a Balloon party.
T: How do they prepare to Balloons party?
S6: They prepare many interesting things: they blow up balloons, make presents, they play games, have surprises and shows.

S7: It's a birthday party.
T: How do they celebrate birthday parties?
S8: Birthday parties are the best of all. At a birthday party there is always a cake on the table with candles and a lot of presents.

S9: It's a Christmas party.
T: When and how do they celebrate Christmas in Britain?
S10: They celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December.

III. Summing-up. Home Assignment
