Topic: “Voyage to the Unknown. The Pilgrims.”

Aims: 1.To study historical events of the time.

            2. To practise reading skills.

            3. To practise spontaneous speech.

                                     Procedure:

  1. Warm-up:

      -Let’s revise some active words. Look at the blackboard. Match the words with their synonyms / definitions.

          PILGRIMS

          VOYAGE                                   

          SAILOR

          ROUGH

          DECK

          HUGE

         A SEA TRIP

         SEAMAN

         STORMY WATER

       “FLOOR OF A SHIP”

      - Who are Piligrims?

      - Why did they sail from England to America?

      - What was their religion?

      - When was the voyage?

      II. Reading.  Revision of special questions.

              1.HO 1. Make two groups. Each group gets part of the text with      information gaps. The task is to exchange questions and complete the gaps.

 I. The ship rolled dangerously from side to side. The waves were_____. John’s head disappeared under the water. ________ screamed. Some sailors ran quickly to the side of the ship. “Man overboard!” one shouted.

Lizzie stared at the sea but she couldn’t see John anywhere. Then she saw a_____ hanging from the ship. The sailors were pulling it. Suddenly John’s head appeared above the water. _____ was holding the rope. “We’ve got you! Hold on!” the sailors shouted.

Lizzie was crying as they pulled John carefully onto________. They laid him on the deck and a sailor hit John hard on his back. John coughed up water and opened his eyes. He saw Lizzie and smiled weakly. “Please don’t cry”, he said.
