Procedure
I. Introduction1) Organization of the class moments (to greet pupils, to control the presence of pupils at the lesson, to organize pupils for learning activities.)
- Good morning, boys and girls! Glad to meet you! How are you today? I hope that you are doing well and are ready to work. First, tell me, please, who is on duty today? Who is absent? What is the matter with them?
- Good. So we are ready to start our lesson. It will be a practical one. We are going to talk about different jobs and professions, and, of course, about your profession you have already chosen.
2) Actualization of pupils’ knowledge.
- At the previous lessons we’re discussing about professions and career prospects. And your home assignment was differentiated. Some of you had to find the correct pieces and put them together to form job related words. And the others had to match jobs with their definitions. Let’s check up them.
(Appendix 1, 2)
3) Announcement of the theme, purposes of lesson, motivation of cognitive activity.
- And now I want to acquaint you with the theme of our lesson. First, write down today’s date. We are going to continue speaking about the world of professions. You study at the vocational school and I hope you will be good specialists, so you have to know much about your professional sphere. That’s why we’ll train in speaking, writing, reading and listening different sources connected with your future job. So, the theme is “The World of Profession”. And the epigraph to our lesson is “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life” (Confucius). Copy it into your copy-books.
4)
Warming-up.- To warm you up I prepare a video for you. Watch it and tell, what is it about.
(Video song “People Work”.)
II. Main Part.
(Shop-assistant, electrician, farmer, driver, baker, waiter, barmen, cook, pastry chef, builder, teacher, dentist, mechanic, accountant, police officer.)
of coffee to buy f) a psychologist
with money problems k) a policeman
- Let’s practice in using topic vocabulary. A man can’t live without work because work keeps him alive, it means life. Profession you have chosen has to bring you satisfaction, it should be something you can do perfect and really want to. Take a piece of paper from this black hat by turn and say what are the most important things about a job?
Pre-reading activity.
Exercise 1.
What are some different kinds of bread? (white bread, wheat bread, whole grain bread, rye bread, French bread, bread sticks, rolls, bagel, donut, hot dog bun, croissant)
We can make toasts, sandwiches.
Bread can be a part of salads.
We can make breadcrumbs.
While-reading activity.
After-reading activity.
Exercise 2.
Dialogue 1.
(- Listen, we have a problem with white bread. We’ve run out of it. What do you think we should do?
- Why don’t we just make another batch?
- We don’t have enough wheat flour left.
- The only way we have is to offer our clients some different kinds of bread. Do we have any of them?
- Yes, we have flatbreads and rye bread.
- That’s good. I hope everything will be fine.)
6) Demonstration.
- At the end of our lesson I have something to motivate you to study at your best. I am sure it will be of great interest for you to find out who are the top bakers in the world. They are from different countries, but what they all have in common is that they are all renowned bakers, known for their culinary skills – be it breads, cakes, or desserts of almost any kind. Let’s look at them.
(Presentation “Top Bakers”)
III. The last part of the lesson.
- I’m satisfied with your work today. All of you were perfect so everyone got positive marks. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask me.
2) Hometask.
A. To make up a crossword “ Jobs and Professions”;
B. Prepare short information about your relatives’ occupations and their attitudes to them.
3) Summing-up.
- Our lesson is almost over. Let’s sum up. We’ve tried to communicate on regular basis, using the vocabulary of the lesson, played a game and done some exercises. What did you like the best? What would you like to get from your job? (satisfaction, good salary, additional benefits, flexible working hours)
I hope the material you have learned will be helpful for you in your everyday life and I wish you only pleasant purchases.
Good luck! Stay active and positive!
