Class 6. School Life. Our Favourite  Subjects.               Date ________________                                                                                   

 

Time:45min.

Lesson Objective:

Language Skills: to develop fluency through a range of speaking activities, to  form  communicative  skills, to develop  pupils’ reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Life Skills: to teach pupils to collaborate with others, to develop their  life skills  such as flexibility,  initiative,  social skills,  productivity and leadership, to develop the abilities of the pupils considering their types of intelligence.

Tasks: to revise grammar on modal verbs, to check the knowledge on lexical material on the topic “School Life”, to teach the  pupils to express their opinions on the topic “ School Life”, to organize conditions for individual work, work in pairs and groups.

Materials:   cards on grammar, cards  the method “know, want to know, now I know”,  anagrams, tables “joyful, creative, successful” ,  cards for pair work,    the scheme “Modal Verbs”,   models of clothing, scissors, glue, cards for  group work.

Equipment:  computers, audio recording of the song “Hello”, text books.

Stages of the Lesson

I.Warm Up/Review

1. Introductory talk.   Вступна бесіда

Teacher: Hello, friends! I’m glad to see you happy in our class and ready to continue our talk about your studying at school, your favourite school subjects.

2. Warm – up.  Exercise “Echo”. 

Teacher: Do you know what echo is? You can hear it in the mountains, in the forest or in an empty room. Imagine you are my echo, so repeat after me:

  •           I am very good today;
  •           I’m happy;
  •           I’m clever;
  •           I’m full of energy;
  •           I will be very active at the lesson  today;
  •           I will get a good mark today;
  •           I’ll learn a lot of new facts today;
  •           I will use all my knowledge today;
  •           I’m the cleverest pupil in the world!

II. Presentation

1. Aims.  Оголошення теми, цілей та завдань уроку.

Teacher: I’m glad that you are full of energy and ready to work at the lesson. At our lesson we are going to  develop our communicative skills, to revise grammar on  modal verbs,to check the knowledge on lexical material on the topic, to practice reading and listening skills.

Teacher: So, let’s begin.

Teacher: What is school for you?

For me it’s a place of my work. I spend here most of the time. I like children, I like English and I can’t imagine myself in other place.  (Pupils’ answers)

Do you like school? Do you like your school uniform? What are your favourite school subjects? We’ll speak all about this at our lesson today – School Life  

Teacher: But first let me see what you probably know on this topic and what you want to learn more.

III. Practice

Teacher: Do you have a favourite or least favourite subject at school? (She could tell the pupils what she liked and didn’t like (and why) when she was at school)

Teacher: I think that our school is the school of Joy, Success and Creativity. Today at the lesson we are going to discuss all three aspects: what brings us joy at school, what successes we have here and how creativity helps us to achieve them.

Teacher: And now I propose you to play a game. The rule is to find your pair and match the subject and the activity that you do at this lesson.

3.  Listening. Computer graphics. (Pair work)

     3.1. Pre-listening work.

Teacher: Listen to my story and try to understand what I am describing. (Перше прослуховування)

The classroom is large. There are three white windows in it. The walls are green in the classroom. There is a brown blackboard with the words “Knowledge is power” on the wall. In front of the blackboard there is a yellow desk and a light-blue chair. There are four pencils on the desk. They are brown, red, green and blue. The floor is brown. There is a red ball on the floor under the blackboard. There are three textbooks on the floor. History is grey. English is purple. Maths is orange.

     3.2. While-listening work.

Teacher: Now, children, take your seats at the computers, listen to my story again and try to remember as many details as you can. (Друге прослуховування)

     3.3.  After-listening work.

Teacher: Work in pairs and colour the picture. After finishing send your drawing by e-mail. (По окончании работы всеми  парами проверка выполненных работ на большом экране, сравнение с образцом)

4.  Checking on the home task.  Role-play.  Перевірка домашнього завдання.

Teacher: We continue to work in pairs. Let’s check on your home task. It was to prepare dialogues about our school, Sport school and Arts’ school.

Teacher: Read and complete the texts. Use the words from the box given below. Work in groups: G 1: ex. 6, p. 162; G 2: ex. 5, p. 166; G 3: ex. 4, p. 176.

      Teacher: Now I suggest you to create models of clothing for boys and for girls. You are working in groups and getting ready to represent your models. Think over who will speak - either one of you or everybody. Show your creativity.  (Роздати заготовки для моделювання одягу, клей, опорні картки для висловлювань).

IV. Evaluation

  Your class has to   publish an issue of school newspaper. Your home task depends on your taste. Choose one of these points:

3. Interview pupils

4. Design the page of your newspaper

5. Make up the time-table of your dream

6. Write an article about your school life or favourite lesson.

And now let’s see what you think about our today’s lesson and how creative you are.  We’ll make poems.  Here’s the rule how to make it:

Line 1: a noun (Today’s lesson)

 Line 3: one sentence

Line 4: 1 participle

Line 5: synonym to the noun in Line 1
