Авторська розробка уроку англійської мови в 11 класі (поглиблене вивчення) з теми "Робота і професії. Мої плани на майбутнє". Підсумковий урок систематизує вивчений матеріал з теми, розвиває навички усного мовлення, аудіювання та письма.

Theme: “Making the Right Choice. My Plans for the Future.”

Objectives:

  • To maintain students` motivation of mastering English;
  • To expand students` outlook & enrich their knowledge through collaborative work;
  • To practice students` coherent speech, enrich their active vocabulary;
  • To help students with their career guidance.

Equipment: a tape recorder with a cassette, models of projects, pictures of different professions, job advertisements, teacher’s multimedia presentation of the lesson, students’ multimedia projects.

The type of the lesson: the lesson of systematization and revision of knowledge

PROCEDURE

INTRODUCTION

T: Every day we make a lot of choices, sometimes subconsciously or even unconsciously. They may be responsible & independent, dependable & surprising. Some of these choices are very small ones. For example, do we eat healthy food for lunch or do we eat junk food, which is tasty but isn’t very good for us? Do we get the bus to and from school or do we walk and get some exercise? Do we work hard in our classes or do we waste time? We make decisions like this every day.  So, what choices do you make?

      T: Well, all your choices may be either important or not, but they influence your mood during the day or even a week of your life. However in the life of people there are some choices that affect their whole future life, success & happiness. What are they?

         S1: I think it`s the choice of ….

         S2: In my opinion …..

         S3: In my view …

         S4: I`m dead sure ….

        T: Well, you are quite right & today we are going to speak about the 1st responsible choice you make entering the adult life – the choice of your future profession.

VOCABULARY REVISION      

 T: The world of professions is rich & enormous. It’s impossible to show & name them all but let`s try to call some of them.

BRAINSTORMING

(There are 2 words on the blackboard. The teacher divides the students into two groups whose task is to write as many professions as possible beginning with the letters the words consist of).

Sample words: profession, occupation.

P –pilot, programmer, politician, plumber                                               

R –reporter,

O -operator

F -fish man, free lancer

E –economist, ecologist

S –sportsman, shop assistant

S -surgeon

I -investigator

O - ophthalmologist

N –nurse

GROUPWORK

Look at the key words. How many jobs related to the career areas can you think of in 2 minutes?(The students fill in the mind maps).

  • the media,
  • IT (information technology),
  • law,
  • cinema,
  • sport etc.

The students are offered several job advertisements. The task is to define what specialists are needed.

SPEECHES

The students are given the pictures of different professions. The task is to describe the profession without naming it. The students guess what it is.

GROUPWORK

T: Now in groups of 3 discuss 3qualities essential for the people of any profession. Give the reasons of your choice.

 (Each group gives their answers).

LISTENING

Pre-listening

T: Any occupation is accompanied by some noises and sounds. For example, the teacher is surrounded by the children`s voices. (The students give their examples).

While-listening

And now relax, switch on your imagination and listen to some sounds and voices. Your task is to guess the occupation of the woman whose voice you will hear. You will be given 4 clues. After each clue you can give your variant of the occupation.

SPEAKING

T: What do you personally think of this problem – making the choice of your future profession?   What is your idea of a good job? What should you take into account choosing a future occupation? (Students` answers).

T: Let`s summarize all the points and make the list of the factors influencing your choice.

Sample answers:

  • popular,
  • prestigious,
  • interesting,
  • well paid,
  • follow fashion,
  • career options,
  • personal interests/hobbies,
  • career prospects….

 

T: Among the factors affecting your choice you have mentioned family traditions. Who is ready to claim that he/she is going to follow up the steps of his /her parents? (Students tell about the occupations of their parents and attitude to them).

T: What are you going to be? Tell us about your choice of the future professions, but today you’ll do it in the form of sinkwein poems about your future professions.

(Students recite their own poems.)

     Calculates, affects the situation & predicts the risk.

The students watch the video clip and sing the song “Life is Wonderful” by Jason Mraz.

PRESENTATION OF THE STUDENTS` PROJECTS.

  • “My Future Profession”
  • “The profession of My Dream”
  • “The Choice I Have Made”

(Students present their projects. A good idea is Power Point Presentation)

MAKING THE MINI -PROJECT AT THE LESSON. WRITING.

T: The choice of a future profession is very responsible but not the only one you make during your life. Certainly, all of you dream about… By the way, what do you dream about? (Students` answers).

T: Your dreams are quite different but in one word you dream about happiness. Today you are having a brilliant chance to try your hand at cooking but it will be unusual because you will cook a cake of happiness. I hope it will be delicious. In 5 minutes be ready to share your recipe of the cake. (The students make the projects and in 1-2 sentences write the recipe of their cakes).

Today we are going to watch some episodes of the American-Australian film “The Secret” produced by Ronda Burne & Paul Harrington & released in 2006.                    (Слайд 12)

While watching try to answer the questions:

  1. What is the secret to everything, the secret of the Universe?
  2. How to apply the secret in our life?
  3. What famous people knew the secret & used it to become successful?

SUMMING-UP

T: Of course it is very important to make the right choice. But I think it is more important what kind of person you will become. I wish you to find yourselves in this world, be kind, honest and noble everywhere and in everything. I wish you success in your future life. May all your cherish dreams come true! Go to your ambitions and remember: “When the people are eager the gods join in!”
