1. Warm-up

• Teacher greets learners and shows a map of Ukraine.
• Quick brainstorm:
  • “What cities in Ukraine do you know?”
  • Write answers on the board (Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv…).
• Play a short audio of famous sounds (church bells, sea waves, street sounds) – learners guess the city.

2. Lead-in

• Show flashcards/photos of 4–5 cities (Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro).
• Teach/review vocabulary:
  • capital, river, old, beautiful, modern, famous for, sea, mountain, church, square
• Example:
  • Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. It is on the Dnipro River.

3. Pre-speaking

• Listen & repeat short descriptions of cities (2–3 sentences).
• Matching activity: match description to picture.
• Drill question structures:
  • What city is it?
  • What is it famous for?
  • What can you see there?
• Group reads model dialogue:

A: What city do you like?
B: I like Lviv.
A: Why?
B: It is old and beautiful. There are many churches.

4. Speaking

• Pair Work: Interview your classmate
  • Use speaking cards with cities and prompts
  • E.g., Name of the city, where it is, why it is famous
• Group Activity: "City Guessing Game"
  • One learner describes a city without naming it
  • Others guess the name
  • E.g., “This city is near the sea. It’s famous for beaches.” → Odesa

5. Post-speaking

• Quick quiz (Kahoot/handout) – match city to description
• Recap vocabulary on the board (learners give examples):
  • modern, sea, river, famous for…
• Learners share:
  • “I spoke about... I learned about...”

6. Homework

• Write 3–5 sentences about your favourite city in Ukraine
  • Use target vocabulary
  • Optional: draw a picture
  • Example:

I like Lviv. It is old and beautiful. There are many churches. I want to go there.

7. Feedback and reflection

• Self-assessment with smiley faces / thumbs:
  • “Today I… spoke English / learned about cities / worked in a pair”
• Optional sentence completion:
  • Today I liked… / I learned… / I want to visit…
