Lesson Stages

1. Warm-up

• Greet learners and ask: «What do you do with old clothes?»
• Show pictures of a recycling bin, a charity shop, and a clothes repair shop.
• Elicit responses and introduce the topic: «Today we will read about how to reuse, recycle, and repair clothes.»

2. Lead-in

• Card game «Translator» (Clothes)
• Introduce key vocabulary:
  • Recycling bin – a container for clothes that can be recycled.
  • Charity/Second-hand shop – a place where used clothes are sold or donated.
  • Clothes repair shop – a shop where old or damaged clothes can be fixed.

3. Pre-reading

• Prediction activity: After hearing the vocabulary, think and answer :
  • «What do you think the text will be about?»

• Write learners’ ideas on the board.

4. Reading

Learners are divided into groups and read the text. Then they answer the questions.

Every year, people buy new clothes and throw away old ones. However, there are better ways to take care of clothes and help the environment. Instead of throwing them away, we can reuse, recycle, and repair them.

First, we can reuse clothes by giving them to family or donating them to a charity shop. Many people buy second-hand clothes because they are cheaper and still in good condition. Second, we can recycle clothes by putting them in a recycling bin. Some companies make new fabric from old clothes. This helps reduce waste and pollution. Third, we can repair clothes instead of buying new ones. A clothes repair shop can fix torn jeans, sew missing buttons, or make old clothes look new again. By reusing, recycling, and repairing clothes, we can save money and protect the planet. Small actions can make a big difference!
