Lesson Plan: Hobbies (Speaking) – (5th Grade)

Objective:

Learners will learn and practice vocabulary related to hobbies and develop their speaking skills through pair and group activities.

1. Warm-up

• Greeting the learners.
• Asking simple questions:
  • What do you do in your free time?
  • Do you have a hobby?
• Playing a quick game: "Guess the Hobby" (Teacher mimes a hobby, learners guess).

2. Lead-in

• Introducing the topic: Hobbies.
• Showing pictures of different hobbies and asking: What can you see?
• Eliciting learners' ideas about hobbies they know.

3. Pre-speaking (Vocabulary)

• Introducing new words with flashcards and gestures:
  • juggling, reading books, dancing, drawing, riding a horse
• Practicing pronunciation and drilling the words.
• "Find the Hobby"
• Activity: Matching words with pictures.

4. Speaking

• Pair Work: Ask and Answer
  • What is your hobby?
  • Why do you like it?
  • How often do you do it?
• Role-play: Learners pretend to be someone famous and talk about their hobby.

5. Post-speaking

• Working in pairs:
  • Learners match hobbies with verbs:
    • painting pictures
    • playing computer games
    • playing the guitar
    • going camping
    • collecting coins
  • Then, they create short dialogues using the phrases.

6. Homework

• Write 5 sentences about their hobby.
• Ask a family member about their hobby and write 3 sentences.

7. Feedback & Reflection

• Discuss what learners learned today.
• Ask:
  • What was easy/difficult?
  • Which hobby do you want to try?
• Give positive feedback and encourage them to explore new hobbies.
