Topic: A day to remember

Aims: -  Give SS practice in listening;

  • Give SS practice in reading;
  • Develop speaking skills;

Assumption: by the end of the lesson learners will learn to tell about an interesting day in their life.

Equipment: course book “Full Blas 1” H.Q.Mitchell, MM Publication, 2009, handouts, audio recording of the text, pictures, flash cards with new words.

 

Procedure

1 Lead-in:

T: Good morning children! How are you? How was your weekend? Today we are going to talk about interesting events in your life. Read the title of our lesson: “A day to remember”.

What is it a day to remember?

SS answer the question.

T: So, we visit different places at the weekend or holidays.

What are these places? Look at the pictures and match the pictures with the words.

SS match the pictures of a skating rink, a bowling alley, an Internet café, a stadium, a funfair, a cinema with the words on the flashcards.

2 Main part.

 1Brainstorming:

The class is divided into two teams. Each team has to answer the question:

What do we do at this place?

Teacher shows the flash card with the word, e.g.: a bowling alley

Suggested answer: We throw a ball in the bowling alley.

2 Listening for  gist.

T: Now, we are going to listen to the girls. Do you have your books open on p.96? Where did the girls, Mary and Penny, go yesterday? Ex.2 A, listen and choose a,b,c or d.

SS do the activity.

3 Listening for specific information.

T: Now, listen again and write T for True and F for False. Before listening read the sentences ex.2 B.

SS do the activity and then the teacher checks the answers with the class.

4 Reading.

T: My friend Sally wrote me about her day to remember. And I want you to read about it.

The class is divided into groups of 4 and each group is handed out stripes of paper with the sentences on them. The groups do jumbled sentences activity.

Sally’s day to remember.

1 After that, Sue and I went to the café where we met our friend Alice. We ordered fruit salad and ice cream.

2 First, Sue helped me with my History project.

3 Later, we decided to go to the shopping centre. When we came there was a concert and we saw our favourite singer Michael Andrare.

4 Last Sunday my friend Sue visited me and we spent the whole day together.

5 Then, we went to the funfair and ride a new roller coaster. It was fantastic!

6 After the concert she gave us her autograph. It was amazing! What a wonderful day!

 

T: Let’s check up the story. Answer my questions:

1 Where did the girls go first?

2 What did they do then?

3 What did they do after that?

4 What did they do later?

5 Speaking:

T: Now, you are working in pairs. Read the questions and answer them. You have 10 minutes to answer them.

The teacher hands out cards with questions:

Card

1 When was your interesting day?

2 Where did you go?

3 Who did you go with?

4 What did you do first?

5 What did you do then?

6 Did you like your day?

 

SS do the activity in pairs.

T: Who wants to go to the board and act out the dialogue?

Some pairs act out the dialogue in front of the class.

6 Feedback.

The teacher writes several sentences from leaners’ answers on the board.

T: Let’s read the sentences and decide if they are correct or incorrect.

SS go to the board and correct the mistakes.

3 Summing  up:

T: So, at this lesson you have learnt to tell about your interesting day.

Homework for the next lesson: WB ex.A,B p.78
