Scene I. Dorothy’s Home

Narrator: Little Dorothy lived in Kansas with uncle Henry and aunt Em. She had a good friend. It was her little dog Toto.

Dorothy:  Aunt Em, Aunt Em, that mean old Mrs. Gulch wants to take  Toto away. We’ve got to save him.

Aunt Em:  Don’t bother me now, Dorothy. A storm’s coming. I’ve got  a lot of work to do. Go find a place where you won’t get  into any trouble.

Dorothy:  Come on, Toto. I wish we could find a place where there’s  no trouble.   (sings) Somewhere over the rainbow    Skies are blue, and the Dreams that you dare to dream.  Really do come true.  We’ve got to run away, Toto.

Toto:        Woof!

MR. CROWE:  Say, Henry, looks like a big storm coming up.

HENRY:  Yep, I think you’re right.

MR. CROWE:  So, if you don’t mind, I’m gonna head on home.  We can  build your new scarecrow anytime.
HENRY:  Yep, those birds will just have to wait.

WOODMAN:  Hey, Henry, I chopped all that wood you wanted.

HENRY:  Already?

WOODMAN:  But now I think I better be getting on home.

MR LYON:  Henry!  There’s a storm coming!

HENRY:  Yep, sure looks like it.

Scene 2. DOROTHY’S FARM. IT IS VERY WINDY.

Narrator: This day there was a terrible storm, which brought Dorothy and Toto to some strange country. Suddenly she saw a woman.
Dorothy:    Aunt Em! Aunt Em! (She goes inside the house.)

Dorothy:    Aunt Em! ((House flies up into the air. Dorothy is screaming. House  lands on a witch.)
The Good Witch of the North: You are welcome, beautiful witch to the land of Oz.

Dorothy: Oh, I am not a Witch. I am a little girl. My name is Dorothy and this is my little dog Toto.

The Good Witch of the North: But you must be a witch. You’ve killed the Wicked Witch  of the East.
Dorothy: But I didn’t mean to kill anybody.
Munchkins:    (sing)  Ding, Dong, the witch is dead.  Which old witch?  The Wicked Witch.  Ding, Dong, the Wicked Witch is dead.
Dorothy :Who are you? And where am I?

The Good Witch of the North: I am the Good Witch of the North and you are in the Land of Oz.

Dorothy: If you are a good witch, please help me and Toto to go back to my uncle and aunt to Kansas.

Toto: Yes, help us please. I want to come back to Kansas.

Dorothy: Toto, can you speak?

The Good Witch of the North: No wonder! He is in the Magic Land. Here all the animals can speak, but, dear Dorothy, I don’t know where Kansas is. I never heard about it. I can’t help you. I’m sorry.

ENTER WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST.

Wicked Witch: Who killed my sister? Was it you? Give me the ruby slippers!

Good Witch:   Never take them off your feet!

Wicked Witch: Just you wait, my pretty one. I’ll get you and your little  dog, too!    Ha ha ha! (disappears).

Dorothy:    Oh, no. I just want to go home.

The Good Witch of the North: Listen to me, Dorothy. Only Oz, the Great Wizard of the Land of Oz can help you. He lives in the Emerald City. You must find him.

Dorothy: How can we get there?

The Good Witch of the North: Just follow the yellow brick road. It is a long way. Take these shoes – the silver shoes of the Wicked Witch. There is some magic in them, but I don’t know it. Good-bye, my dear.

Dorothy and Toto: Good-bye, thank you!

Scene 3. ON THE ROAD

Dorothy: Come along, Tot. We shall go to the Emerald City.

Toto: Let’s go there. We shall ask the Great Oz to send us back home to Kansas. Dorothy, look! Who’s that?

Scarecrow: Good day!

Dorothy: Do you speak?

Scarecrow: Yes, I do. How do you do?

Dorothy: How do you do? I hope you are all right.

Scarecrow: No, I’m not very well. I don’t like to stay here night and day. Can you help  me to get down?

Dorothy and Toto: Certainly!

Scarecrow: Thank you very much. I’m free now. Who are you? And where are you going?

Dorothy: My name is Dorothy. This is my dear dog Toto. We are going to the Emerald City.

Toto: We want to ask the Great Wizard of Oz to send us back home to Kansas.

Scarecrow: I don’t know the Great Wizard of Oz. You see, I have no brains. I know nothing. I’m a fool.

Dorothy: Oh, don’t say so! You are nice! Let’s go with us! You will see the Great Wizard.

Scarecrow: And I shall ask him to give me some brains. I want to be clever. Dorothy, is your dog kind?

Toto: Don’t be afraid of me!

Scarecrow: I’m not afraid of you. I‘m afraid only of fire.

Dorothy: Now we are three and we are going to the Emerald City!

Scarecrow and Toto: And we are going to the Great Wizard of Oz!

Tin Woodman

The Tin Woodman: How do you do? I am the Tin Woodman. I have heard your talk. I know you are Dorothy. This is your dog Toto and this is the Scarecrow. I saw him in the field and I live in the forest.

Dorothy: Why do you live in the forest?

The Tin Woodman: Because I am made of tin. I have no heart, I can’t be happy without it.

Dorothy: Let’s go to the Emerald City together.

The Tin Woodman: And I shall ask the Great Wizard to give me a heart.

The Scarecrow and Toto: and now we are four!

All : And we are going to the Great Wizard of Oz!

Roar. The Lion appears

Dorothy: Don’t take my Toto! How can you? You are do big and he is so small! Shame on you! You are a coward!

The Lion: Yes, I know it. I’m a coward, But what can I do? Everybody thinks that I’m brave. All people are afraid of my roar and I’m afraid of them. I want to have some courage.

Dorothy: Do you want to go with us to the Great Wizard of Oz? I think he can give you courage.

All: And now we are five! And we are going to the great Wizard of Oz!

Scarecrow: Yes, I feel my brains are sharper. Thank you!

The Tin Woodman: Shall I have a heart at last?
