Good morning, boys and girls!
It is a nice today, is not it? It is certainly, yes, it is a beautiful day. Are you having a good day today? I know for sure you will have it.
Well, you should guess the topic of our today’s lesson. Listen to the song.
(A song)
What are we going to talk about today?
What religious holiday do people celebrate in Ukraine and in English-speaking countries in spring? (Easter)
And today I’d like to invite you to our Easter party. We’ll play games, make and decorate things. We will do it in teams, so let’s divide our class into 3 teams.
What do you know about this holiday, about Easter? When do we celebrate it? What symbols of this holiday do you know?
So right you are, Easter is the time for holidays, festivals and a time for giving chocolate Easter eggs. In the USA Easter is a time when certain old traditions are observed. It is celebrated as a religious festival. We celebrate Christ’s rising from the dead and the start of a spring. It is held on the first Sunday following the first fool moon.
To many people Easter means the coming of spring. In spring, the buds in the trees shoot out new leaves. Birds build their nests and lay their eggs. For hundreds of years eggs have symbolized the awaken of living spring.
In English-speaking countries it is a time for giving and receiving presents which traditionally take the form of an Easter egg. Why an egg? Because an egg has always been a traditional symbol of Christ resurrection.
Another symbol of this holiday is an Easter Rabbit (Bunny). It was believed that Bunny chased away the spirit of winter.
On Easter Monday it is accepted to give children sweets and toys in the streets. So sweets and toys became the symbols of this day as well.
Typical Easter cakes are hot cross buns, small round sweet cakes. In Ukraine we have typical Easter bread –“Paska”.
Read the poem and say what Easter symbols are.
Easter everywhere
Rabbits soft and cuddly
Baby chickens, too.
Easter eggs for baskets
White and pink and blue.
Easter cards of greeting,
Music in the air,
Lilies just to tell us
It’s Easter everywhere.
Well, how many symbols have you found? What are these symbols? (rabbits or Easter bunnies, baby chickens, coloured eggs, greeting cards, also cookies, sweets and Easter cake).
What do people usually do on this day?
There are many kinds of activities on this day. First of all people go to the church. After church services people go for a walk around the town. The most famous parade is along the 5th Avenue in New York.
The traditional pastime on Easter is “Egg-rolling”. It takes place on Easter Sunday or Monday and consists in rolling coloured, hard-boiled eggs. The Easter egg-roll on the White house lawn has been a tradition ever since 1878, and it remains one of the most popular events in Washington, D.C. each year.
A lot of children like to take part in “an Easter Egg Hunt”. They can spend the whole Easter morning hunting for eggs, which the Easter bunny has hidden from them in the grass. The custom of an Easter egg hunt began because children believed that bunnies laid eggs in the grass.
As you see Easter has a long history and many interesting traditions. It is a funny and exciting holiday not only for children but for adults too.
Well done, children! And now another task for you. You have a chance to get some extra points. Your task is to unscramble the words.

Parents hide eggs from their children. And we will hide an egg from you. One person from each team leaves a classroom for a minute while we hide an egg. Then he comes in and looks for his egg. His team helps him to find the egg just saying hotter or colder. We’ll note down the time, the team who does it quicker will get more points.
Our party is coming to the end.
So, what have you learnt about Easter today?
Lets sing a song, you heard at the beginning.
Well, that’s the end of our Easter party.
