Тема: English  in our life

Moto: “The more we learn the more we know”

Цілі: формувати навички діалогічного та монологічного мовлення, сприйняття тексту на слух;

навчати спілкування за темою;

розвивати ерудицію учнів;

виховувати повагу до культури інших країн;

           виховувати інтерес до вивчення англійської мови.

Тип заходу: виховна година

Обладнання: проектор, аудіозаписи, презентації,зображення, відеозаписи, плакати, роздатковий матеріал.

Хід виховної години

I Greeting and aim

1^st student: Today we meet here to speak English, to listen to it and to enjoy it.  Nowadays English  is very important, because it is an international language that gives us a lot of opportunities. We can easily travel, work, study and live abroad as we know English. Moreover, we can enjoy reading books, listening to music, watching movies in English as well. So, today, we’ll try to show you that English is extremely interesting, exciting and essential language.

2^nd student: Сьогодні ми зустрілись для того щоб розмовляти англійською, слухати її та насолоджуватись нею. В сучасному світі, англійська мова є дуже важливою, тому що це міжнародна мова, знання якої відкриває нам безліч можливостей. Ми можемо без перешкод подорожувати, працювати, вчитися та проживати закордоном володіючи англійською. Отже, сьогодні ми спробуємо показати Вам, що англійська мова є цікавою, захоплюючою та необхідною мовою.

II English speaking countries (presentation)

1^st student: As English is a worldwide language, we want to tell you about some English speaking countries. But first, tell us please what English-speaking countries do you know?                Now it’s your turn to listen to some interesting information about these countries (England, Scotland, New Zealand, The USA and Canada).

2^nd student: Оскільки англійська є світовою мовою, ми хочемо ознайомити Вас з деякими англомовними країнами, такими як Англія, Шотландія, Нова Зеландія, Сполучені штати Америки та Канада.

• England. The full name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom is situated on the British Isles. The British Isles consist of two large islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and a great number of small islands. The British Isles are separated from the European continent by the North Sea and the English Channel. The island of Great Britain consists of three main parts: England (the southern and middle part of the island), Wales (a mountainous peninsula in the West) and Scotland (the northern part of the island).
• Scotland: Scotland is one of four parts of  Great Britain. The main cities of the country are its capital Edinburgh and the main industrial center Glasgow. At the top of the highest hill in Scotland Edinburgh Castle is located. As for Scottish culture, music is its significant aspect. A famous traditional instrument is the Great Highland Bagpipe. We cannot mention the Loch Ness Monster which is just one of the many myths and legends to be discovered in this particularly beautiful part of Scotland.
• New Zealand. New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.  Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand. English is the predominant language in New Zealand, spoken by 98 percent of the population. There are such famous attractions as “Bridge to nowhere”, Antrim house, St.Mary of the Angels church, Nugget point lighthouse and others.
• The USA. The USA is situated in the central part of the north American continent. Its western coast is washed by the Pacific Ocean and its easten coast, by the Atlantic Ocean. The area of the USA is over 9 million square kilometers.
• Canada. Canada is a vast country, bigger than the United States, bigger than the continent of Australia. It is in fact one of the world's largest countries. Its area is about 10 mln sq km. As Canada extends for thousands of miles from the Arctic Ocean to the United States and from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, all kinds of weather conditions and scenery are to be found there. The population of Canada is 29 mln people. The capital is Ottawa; the main cities are Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

Ukrainian land,

Is the best place in the world.

III Poets and writers

1^st student: After such a nice poem we’d like to remember recent Christmas holidays that are closely combined with music, better to say with  the carols. We all know our famous Ukrainian carol  “Shchedryk”. This song was written by Mykola Leontovych in 1901. For the first time it was played in 1916 in Kyiv, and in 1921 it sounded in New-York. In 1936 Peter Vil’govskiy, Ukrainian by birth, translated “Shchedryk” into English and called it “Carol of the bells”. This melody was also used as a soundtrack for such films as  South Park, Harry Potter, Home Alone, The Addams Family. Now you have an opportunity to listen to its English versions: classical and modern.

2^nd student: Прослухавши таку чудову композицію, хочемо пригадати нещодавні Різдвяні свята, які також асоціюються з музикою, а якщо точніше з колядками. Нам усім відома  українська щедрівка «Щедрик», яка була написана Миколою Леонтовичем у 1901 році. Вперше, «Щедрик» зазвучав у 1916 році в Києві, а вже у 1921 році у Нью-Йорку. У 1936 році Пітер Вільґовський, українець за походженням, переклав «Щедрик» на англійську мову, і назвав його «Коляда дзвоників». Цю мелодію також використовували як саундтрек до таких фільмів як Південний парк, Гарі Поттер, Сам удома, Сімейка Адамсів. А зараз у Вас є можливість послухати класичну та сучасну англомовну версію даної композиції.

1^st student: English poets have also enriched English culture.  What English poets and writers do you know? The most famous English speaking poets and writers are: William Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, George Gordon Byron and others. Let us introduce some of them.

• William Shakespear: William Shakespeare, often called the English national poet, is widely considered the greatest dramatist of all time. He was baptized on April 26, 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. His famous works are Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, Hamlet and many others. He was also famous for his sonnets, one of  which you are going to listen to.

•                  Mark Twain The name Mark Twain is a pseudonym of Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Clemens was an American humorist, journalist, lecturer, and novelist who acquired international fame for his travel narratives, especially The Innocents Abroad (1869), Roughing It (1872), and Life on the Mississippi (1883), and for his adventure stories of boyhood, especially The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885).

У передмові до книги «Пригоди Тома Соєра» Марк Твен зазначив: «Частиною мого плану було спробувати пригадати дорослим про те, якими вони були в дитинстві, як вони почувалися, думали і розмовляли, і які дивакуваті витівки вони інколи вигадували. Щоб краще зрозуміти стиль творів Марка Твена ми пропонуємо Вам переглянути короткий епізод з фільму знятого за мотивами твору «Пригоди Тома Соєра».

IV 10 reasons why we should learn English (presentation)

1^st student: So, as you’ve understood English is very interesting and necessary language. There are 10 reasons why we should learn English. They are:

• It’s an important spoken language in Europe. Важлива мова спілкування в Європі.
• You can read literature in original. Можливість читати літературу мовою оригіналу
• Have business with foreign countries. Займатися бізнесом із зарубіжними країнами
• Pleasure from success.  Задоволення від успіху
• Advantages for tourism. Переваги для туризму
• Chances for employment. Шанси на ринку праці
• English opens Europe for us. Англійська мова знайомить з Європою
• Scientific progress. Науковий прогрес
• English allows to enjoy art. Англійська допомагає повністю насолодитися мистецтвом
