In the USA, compulsory education begins at the age of 6. Primary school is called elementary school and lasts for six years. After that, children move to junior high school (middle school) for two years, and then continue in senior high school until they are 18. Most American public schools do not require a school uniform, so pupils can wear casual clothes. However, discipline rules are very strict: bullying, cheating, and using phones during lessons are prohibited. In senior high school, students can select many subjects themselves, but English, Science, Math, and PE are obligatory for all. After classes, almost everyone joins sports teams, music bands, or clubs. Graduation is celebrated with an official ceremony and a big dance party called "prom".
