Children and parents. Generation gap

Objectives:

  • to introduce and practice the new topic;
  • to revise previously taught vocabulary;
  • to focus students on using antonyms;
  • to improve students’ reading, and speaking skills;
  • to develop students’ communicative competence;
  • to activate thinking imagination;
  • to encourage understanding and tolerance to others;
  • to broaden student’s outlook; to develop self-esteem and a sense of respect for others.

Outcomes: by the end of the lesson students will be able:

  • to use adjectives to describe a person’s character;
  • to express their personal opinion on the topic;
  • to discuss the questions showing agreement or disagreement;
  • to define the text main ideas and specific information.

 

Procedure

 

1. Warm-up

Ex.1 p. 4 Discuss the proverbs

  • Little children – little sorrow, big children – big sorrow.
  • A little tree is known by its fruit.

 

2. speaking

Complete the mind map “Happy family”

 

3. vocabulary

1. well-disposed  adj having friendly feelings towards smb/smth

2. sociable adj enjoying to be with other people; gregarious

3. generous adj demonstrating a desire to give money, help, etc.

4. intelligent adj good at learning, thinking in a logical way

5. hard-working adj putting much effort into a job and doing this job well

6. honest adj always telling the truth

7. courageous adj not feeling danger to do smth

8. truthful adj always telling the truth, honest

9. talkative adj enjoying talking a lot

10. frustrated adj having no effect; not being satisfied

13. maturity n the quality of thinking and behaving in a sensible, adult manner
