Nelly’s cat

    Nelly has a grey cat. The cat’s name is Carry. Carry is a big cat.

    She has three little kittens – a black kitten, a white kitten and a grey kitten. Nelly’s cat Carry and her kittens do not sleep in Nelly’s room. They sleep in the kitchen in a box. The box is on the floor near the table.

   Nelly likes to take the cat to her room. She likes to play with her cat Carry, but Carry doesn’t like to play with Nelly, she likes to sleep in Nelly’s bed. The kittens like to play with Nelly. They like to run in the Nelly’s room. Nelly has a little toy mouse. She gives the toy mouse to the kittens. The kittens like to play with the Nelly’s toy mouse.

The Cat and the Mice.

     A cat lives in a small house. In the kitchen of the cat’s house little mice live. The cat is very big and every day she eats one or two mice. But on her birthday the cat doesn’t eat mice. Every year all the mice in the house come to the cat’s birthday party. Of course, the cat is very glad to see the mice. They give her birthday presents: a cake, a bottle of milk and interesting toys. The toys are made of paper and cotton. The cat likes cakes and milk; she likes the toys too.

     This year the mice come to the cat’s birthday party and say, “Here is a blue ribbon with a small bell for you”.

      The ribbon is very nice. The cat takes the ribbon, puts it on and says, “Thank you. I like the ribbon and the bell very much. I want to wear it all the time”.

        The mice are very happy. Now they know when the cat comes. When the mice hear the bell, they run off the kitchen.

The cat, the mouse and the piece of cheese.

   One day Mr. Barmy went to the shop and bought a cat, a mouse and a large piece of cheese at a time. Then he had to cross the road to get his car. He could only carry one of the things. He couldn’t leave the cat alone with the mouse, because the cat would eat the mouse. And he couldn’t leave the mouse alone with the cheese, because the mouse would eat the cheese.

If you put these seven sentences in the right order, you will see what Mr. Barmy did:

The Rabbit and the Fox.

а) Прочитай текст і переклади його українською мовою.

   Once upon a time there lived a rabbit in the forest. There lived a fox in that forest too. The rabbit knew that the fox wanted to eat him up. So he tried never to come near the fox.

   One winter morning the rabbit met the fox near a fir-tree in the forest.

“Good morning, Mr. Rabbit!”

“Good morning, Mr. Fox!”

“It is frosty and you can catch cold”.

“Thank you, Mr. Fox. It’s really very cold and I have no house”.

Let’s be friends. Come to me and we shall live in my house”.

“Thank you, Mr. Fox”, said the rabbit and ran away. He knew that the fox wanted to eat him up.

The fox was very angry with the rabbit because he was very, very hungry and he could not catch the rabbit.
