Theme: Eating Habits

Aim: revising previously taught vocabulary on the topic ,  to practice monological  skills .

Objectives: revising previously taught vocabulary , developing  monological  skills , involving students  in the  process of English communication , to create a relaxed non-threatening atmosphere in the classroom.

Out Come : students can speak about their eating habits

Equipment : pictures : “ Healthy Eating Plate” , “Healthy Eating Pyramid”, presentation “Eating Habits“,” Focus-3

Lesson Procedure

  1. Organization   moment.

T.: Good morning! Who is absent today? Why? You know that healthy food may  prevent  you  from  getting  sick  . The theme of our   lesson is “Eating Habits”. We’ll talk about food groups and how the Food Pyramid can help to plan healthy meal. We’ll watch a presentation and discuss some questions. After this lesson you’ll be able to list the better food choices for a healthy body and answer the question:

What food groups are important for a healthy body?

 

  1. Warm-Up

First  of all  , what proverbs and sayings  on this topic do you know?

  •          One should eat to live not live to eat.
  •          Appetite comes with eating.
  •          You are what you eat.
  •          An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
  •          Your food is your medicine.
  •          More die of food than famine.

                    How can you explain these sayings?

  1. The main part.
  1.      Match the words on the cards with their definition .You have 2 minutes.

 

PROTEIN,  SERVING,  CARBOHYDRATES, DIET , ENERGY ,NUTRIENTS

  •          Any of a group of organic compounds forming part of body tissues and making up an important  part of the diet.
  •          A quantity of food suitable for one person.
  •          Any of a large group of compounds that contain carbon  , hydrogen and oxygen found in food that gives energy.
  •          The food that a person usually eats .
  •          The strength and vitality needed to stay active.
  •          A substance essential for life and growth.

2 ) Complete the sentences with these words : nutrients, protein , serving , carbohydrates, energy ,diet.

  4. Your________  should include healthful food in the recommended daily amounts.

  •          Now let’s speak about  your  eating habits.

                           Let’s do ex.2 p .51 S.B

                           Answer the questions, count your “Yes” answers .And what are your results?

  •          What’s your favourite category on the Food Guide  Plate ? (dairy , fruits , vegetables ,grains … )
  •          What is better and healthier for your body : an apple or a chocolate bar ?
  •          Do you think about what you eat for breakfast  ?

In order to be healthy , you should eat more of certain products and less of others.

The Food Pyramid can be your guide  for your balanced diet.

4)  Presentation  “ Food Pyramid”

The  Food  Pyramid shows us how much we need to eat from each food groups. To get the  nutrients  you need to eat these products every day.

Do you know the fact that different parts of our organism need different food?

  •          What is good for our bones? (milk )
  •          What is good for our   heart   ? (garlic )
  •          What is good   for  our  nerves  ? (onion )
  •          What is good for  our  brain  ? (beans )
  •          What is good for our  skin  ? (apricots )
  •          What is good   for our eyes ?  ( carrot )

5 ) On the board.

Join into two groups. Write in column all possible food examples of given colour .

What can you tell us about this food?

Why do you consider that food is healthy  ? ( unhealthy ).

And now I want to draw your attention to the board  where the quotation from Jerome K. Jerome is written

“  We are the slaves of our stomach”

Is it so ?

What do you think about this quotation ?

How do you understand these words?

What is your opinion?
