  1.               This is the day, on which practical jokes are played. It is a very old custom. One of the most popular tricks is sending someone to find something that doesn't exist. Many other people celebrate the holiday by making it a "backwards" day. They wear their clothes inside out and backwards, walk backwards, eat breakfast for dinner, and wear their socks over their shoes. (All Fools' Day)

  1.               This holiday is traditionally observed on the second Sunday of March. The name of Mothering Sunday came from the ancient custom of visiting the "Mother church" at this time. It dates from the time when many girls worked away from home. (Mother's Day)

  1.               This is a day when many people try to be with their families. For most British families, this is the most important festival of the year. It combines the Christian celebration of the birth of Christ with the traditional festivities of winter. On Sunday before this day many churches hold a carol service where special hymns are sung. Sometimes carol singers can be heard in the streets as they collect money for charity. (Christmas)

3. Relaxation minute.

Presenting the action rhyme “Christmas Presents”.

CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

See the many presents

by the Christmas tree,

       Some for you,

And some for me.

     Long ones,

Tall ones,

     Short ones, too.

And here is a round one

      Wrapped in blue.

Isn't it fun to look and see

All the presents by the Christmas tree?

4. Checking homework.

5. Reading Practice.

T.: I’ll name some words and your task is to guess what will be your text about: ghost, witch, pumpkin … You are right. It’s about the Halloween Day. So, as you understand, now we are going read about Halloween Day (HO1) and do some assignments to the text  (HO2).

Hello. My name is Bessy. My favourite holiday is Halloween. It’s on the 31st of October and on this night witches fly on their broomsticks. Every year we have a Halloween Party at school. I’d like to tell you about our last celebration.

Before the holiday we decorated the hall. We made funny Halloween lanterns. When it was dark we put a light inside a pumpkin.

The party started at 7 o’clock. My friends all came in fancy dresses. We had 3 witches, 5 ghosts and 1 vampire. As for me I liked wearing my witch’s costume.

My friend Daniel didn’t like wearing fancy dress but he didn’t mind being a ghost. He ran around the hall and tried to frighten everybody.

We played many Halloween games. I liked “Boobbing for apples”. It was difficult to eat the apples which were in a big bowl of water, and I couldn’t touch them with my hands.

After the party we played the game called “Trick or Treat”. We went to people’s houses and said “Trick or treat?” It was very funny and we enjoyed our holiday very much!

1. Choose the best title for the text:

- A “Trick-or-Treat” Party.

- Halloween Celebration.

- Our last Halloween Celebration at school.

2. Find the words from the box and finish the definitions.
