Worksheet 2 The digestive system When you eat, your body begins a long journey through your body. We call this the digestive process. This process turns the food you eat into the energy you need every day. The journey starts in your mouth. First, you put food in your mouth and chew it with your teeth. When the food is small enough, you swallow it. The food passes from your mouth, down your throat and into your stomach. Thick muscles make up the stomach. These muscles mash the food into a soup. The acids and muscles in your stomach help to break the food up and kill any germs. This is when your stomach digests the food. It needs four to five hours to do it. Then the food moves in liquid form from your stomach into the small intestine, where it stays for up to four hours. There, it breaks down into vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and fats. These are the elements our body uses for energy and to repair bone, blood and muscle. Worksheet 3 Replace the words in bold with words from the text
Worksheet 4 The journey of a bite! Imagine that you are a potato and write… My journey starts. I go in your mouth……
