Topic “ In the world of animals”

Aim:

to present and practice vocabulary on the topic;

to develop speaking, reading and listening skills.

Objectives:

by the end of the lesson students will be able :

to have knowledge of the vocabulary;

to describe each animal group;

to compare the animal groups.

Learning outcomes:

Animals consist of…..

Mammals are…

Birds have got….

Reptiles have got….

 

Procedure

1.Greeting

-  Hi, my dear friends! I'm glad to see you. How are you today? How’s it going?

2.Presenting the topic.

- Le’ts start our lesson. Today we’ll speak, read and do a lot of different tasks on the topic. I want you to guess the theme of our lesson today. If we put these letters together  we’ll find out what is the theme of our lesson.

(  students make up the sentence and stick it on the blackboard)

                       In the world of animals

  • Good. What is the theme of the lesson? What do we talk about?
  • Animals.
  • Yes, you are right. Today we are going to speak about animals .

 

3  Warming up activity

  • We live in the world that is full of the beauty of nature. Animals are the part of our world. To make our lesson more successful let’s revise the words which can describe  the animals. (pictures and words on the screen)

Fur                                mane

Shell                             feather

Hooves                         scale

Paws                             flippers

Tail                               claws

 

-What about animals? Do you know them?

(students name animals appearing on the screen)

  • Who has got wings?
  • Who has got hooves? Beak? Big ears? Horn? Shell? Scales?

 

4. Fill the table.

In pairs fill in the table. Put + to the right answer

5. Game “ Fencing”

 

-Do you know a lot of animals? Let’s find it? Let’s play the game “Fencing”.

( One student read 5 animals. Two students  point to the animal as quickly as they can.The winner is the quickliest student.)

 

6. Ball game

- Let’s play with the ball. Answer my questions when you catch it.

  •  Which animals live in the sea?

( shark, dolphin, whale, fish.)

  • Which animals live in the jungle?

( panda, parrot, snake, monkey, chimpanzee.)

  •  Which animals live on a farm?

( rabbits, goats, cows, horses.)

- Which animals can swim?

                 ( whale, dolphin, shark, crocodile, penguin).

- Which animals can fly?

(bat, parrot, fly, bird.)

-Which animals can run?

               (rabbit, lion, bear, elephant.)

- Which animals have got a tail?

              ( camel, chimpanzee, elephant, giraffe, goat, kangaroo etc.)

-Which animals are big?

              ( bear, elephant, whale.)

-Which animals are small?

              ( bird, frog, bat.)

-Which animals do you like?

            (give their own answers.)

-Which animals are you afraid of?

            (Students: give their own answers).

 

6. Mind map

7. Classify the animals

- Lets divide into 3 groups and classify the animals

(Students  have  envelopes  with the names of animals. They have to choose the animal according to the group)

 

 

 

8.Writing  and presenting special characteristics to each group.

( Students do this task in groups. The leader  present it)

- What is your favourite animal?

- Where does it live?

Please, describe your favourite animal and your classmates should guess it.

( students suggestions)
