                                     My Favourite Toy

Objective:

By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to:

  • use new verbs (to fly, to drive, to ride, to cook, to talk, to cry) in oral and written speech;
  • ask and answer the questions with the modal verb “can”;
  • describe the toys and tell what their toys can do;
  • tell what they can or can’t do;
  • read the words with the sounds [ᴂ],[e],[i],[ɒ],[^].

Materials: a textbook, an exercise-book, the cards on the topic “Toys”, the cards for the individual work, the multimedia presentation.

Procedure:

І. Beginning of the Lesson

1. Greeting

  • Good morning, children.
  • Good morning, teacher.
  • How are you?
  • We’re fine, thank you. How are you?
  • I’m fine, thanks. Sit down, please.

2. Aim

At this lesson we’ll speak about your favourite toys. You’ll practise in describing your toys and you’ll learn to say what you and your toys can do.

a) Vocabulary Revision

Game “Bring me a/an …, please”

The cards on the topic “Toys” are on the teacher’s table. The teacher asks one on the pupils: “Oleh, bring me a ball, please”. This pupil comes to the teacher’s table, finds the card with the ball and gives it to the teacher. Then he asks another pupil to bring any toy. The game ends when there aren’t cards on the table.

b) Grammar Practice (Can you …?”, “Yes, I can”, “No, I cant)

-  the teacher explains the rules;

- the teacher asks some pupils if they can do something and they answer.

- game “Snake”

The teacher begins the game. He/she asks the first pupil: “Can you …?” He/She answers and asks the next pupil and so on, like “a snake crawls” The last pupil asks the teacher and the game ends.

Pair Work.

The teacher gives the cards with the toys or toys to each pupil. They work in pairs using the example. The teacher may act the first dialogue with the best pupil as a model.
