Materials: AB Quick Minds 2 and PB Quick Minds 2, Teacher`s Resource Book, Class Audio CDs, cards, pupils` portfolios

The aims:

• to revise the core vocabulary (domestic animals, animal families, plural form of nouns)
• to practise the core vocabulary through a communicative game
• to give further practice of the core vocabulary by describing the pictures related to different animal groups
• to reinforce spelling of the core vocabulary

Warm-up

Revise the vocabulary

Hold up each word card in turn and stick the cards on the board. Say the word for pupils to repeat in chorus. Ask the pupils to repeat the words loudly, quietly, quickly, slowly etc. Then they should write the words (under the cards) – 4-6 pupils at once. One-two of the other pupils check the written words and correct the mistakes if there are any.

1. Listen and sing.

• Pupils look at the cards (the text of the song)

CD 3 (tr. 23) Play the recording. Pupils follow the song in their Pupil’s Books.

• Play the recording again, pausing after each verse for pupils to repeat.

• When pupils have learnt the song, practise it with the whole class.

2. Listen and read (cards)

    My Favourite Domestic Animal

   This is a horse. It is a mammal. It is big and brown. It has beautiful hair. It lives on the farm.

• Pupils look at the cards (the text)
• The teacher presents the text.  Pupils follow the text, then read (one by one) and translate it.

3. Choose, present and guess (card Animal Talk – Teacher`s Resource book)

     Invite volunteers to choose the animal (they can say the number and choose the animal). They speak about the animal as in example and the other pupils should guess what animal is it.

4. Write the description of the animal

• Pupils draw their favourite animal and write about it as in the example, using the learnt vocabulary.
• Pupils present their work (then add them to their portfolios)
