Aim 1.
T: Every country has its own holidays, traditions and customs.
It’s very important to know them for better understanding the
history and life of other people.
We cannot speak about Great Britain without observing some
of its traditions and customs. If you arrive in Great Britain,
you’ll hear the word “tradition” everywhere. An Englishman
has a sentimental love for things and customs because they are
old.
Warm-up 2.
T: Englishmen are known for their politeness and courtesy.

guess what holiday it is and say when it is celebrated.
Halloween (Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the
night of October 31. Halloween activities include trick-
or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties,
visiting "haunted houses" .
The term Halloween (and its alternative rendering
Hallowe'en) is shortened from All-hallow-even,
as it is the eve of "All Hallows' Day», which is now
also known as All Saints' Day. Irish and Scottish
immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North
America in the nineteenth century.)
St. Valentine’s Day (Valentine's Day or Saint Valentine's
Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14. In the
Americas and Europe, it is the traditional day on which
lovers express their love for each other by sending
Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering
confectionery. The holiday is named after two among the
numerous Early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The
day became associated with romantic love.)
Christmas (Modern customs of the holiday include gift-
giving, church celebrations, and the display of various
decorations —including the Christmas tree,
lights, mistletoe, nativity scenes and holly. The jolly
mythological figure Santa Claus, or Father Christmas,
is also a major aspect of Christmas;
he is traditionally believed by millions of children as
being a bringer of gifts on or before Christmas Day. )
All Fool’s Day (April Fools' Day or All Fools' Day,
though not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day
celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is
marked by the commission of hoaxes and other
practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends,
enemies and neighbors, or sending them on fools'
errands, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. In
some countries, April Fools' jokes (also called April
Fools) are only made before noon on 1 April.)

My heart in the Highlands wherever I go
Farewell to the Highlands, farewell of worth.
Wherever I wonder wherever I rove
The hills of the Highlands forever I love.
Farewell to the mountains high covered with snow.
Farewell to the straits and green valleys below
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.
S-2 – I’ll recite the poem “She walks in beauty”
by: George Gordon (Lord) Byron (1788-1824)
SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY
SHE walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
