1. Letter A

A is for apple.

It is on the tree.

Will you jump a little

And pick it for me?

Apple Tree

Five little apples up on a tree

Five little apples are looking at me.

I shook that tree as hard as I could.

Down came the apples.

Yummy – they are good!

Little Ant

Little ant, little ant,

Don’t go away. I’m your friend.

Let us dance, let us play,

Let’s be happy every day!

 

2. Letter B

B is for ball.

The ball is red and blue.

Let’s take it up,

I want to play with you.

Little Red Bird

There sits a little red bird

Upon my apple tree;

It gets up very early

And sings its song to me.

Betty Blue

Little Betty Blue

Lost her holiday shoe.

What can little Betty do?

Betty cannot find her shoe.

What will little Betty do?

 

3. Letter C

C is for cat.

The cat lives in the house.

It doesn’t like to eat sweet cakes,

But it can catch a mouth.

My Cat

I love my cat,

Her name is Jane.

My cat is grey.

She likes to play.

A Clever Cat

It’s a little brown cat.

It has got a brown hat.

It has got a brown book.

What a clever cat! Just look!

 

4. Letter D

D is for dog.

The dog is very smart.

It likes to run, it likes to jump

With children in the yard.

A Dog

It’s a dog. It says: “Bow-wow!

Are you ready to play now?”

It likes playing with a ball.

It likes playing best of all.

My Doll

My pretty doll

Is very small.

I love my pretty

Little doll.

 

5. Letter E

E is for egg.

It’s yellow and white.

And it is for eagle

That flies so high.

Counting

“How much is eight and eleven?”

Asks little Evan.

“How much is eleven plus eight?”

Asks little Kate.

“How much is eight from eleven?”

Wants to know little Evan.

“How much is eleven minus eight?”

Wants to know little Kate.

An Elephant

An elephant has a very long nose.

An elephant waters a beautiful rose.

It is so high, so heavy and strong,

And sings for the rose a beautiful song.

 

6. Letter F

F is for fish.

It swims in the sea.

It has a worm for dinner

And doesn’t like tea.

Five Little Dogs

Five little dogs

Are playing by the door;

One runs away,

And now there are four.

My Friend

My friend is good

And very clever.

I like my friend

And that’s forever!

 

7. Letter G

G is for girl.

She’s got a nice hat.

Has she got a nice coat?

We don’t know that.

Five Little Girls

Five little girls, as you can see,

Are in the garden under the tree.

Little Goose

Little goose, little goose,

Where are your shoes?

Little, little goose, stop talking,

Put them on and let’s go walking.

 

8. Letter H

H is for honey.

It is so sweet.

“Let’s take a little”,

Says brother Pete.

A Horse

This animal has got big force.

What is it? It is a horse.

It likes wind, it likes the sun.

It’s very fast and likes to run.

How do you do?

“How do you do, Hatty?”

“How do you do?”

“I hope, you are very well, Hatty,”

“I hope, you are too.”

 

9. Letter I

I is for ice.

The ice is bright and cold.

And it is for ice-cream

Loved by young and old.

A Little Iguana

Once a little iguana

Finds a yellow banana.

What a colour! What a smell!

I can take it. Very well!

What do I like?

I like ice-cream,

She likes sweets,

I like cookies,

He likes cheese,

I like coffee,

She likes tea,

I love you.

Do you love me?

 

10. Letter J

J is for jam.

The jam is on the plate.

“May I take a spoonful, mum?”,

Asks little Kate.

Some Tea

Two little boys,

Johnny and Sam,

Sit down to have

Some tea with jam.

A Jaguar

When a jaguar wakes up,

It takes a little yellow cup.

It drinks coffee, it drinks tea.

It drinks chocolate as you see.

 

11. Letter K

K is for kitten.

It is gay and funny.

It likes to drink milk,

But it doesn’t like honey.

A White Kite

Boy:

White kite, white kite,

Up in the sky,

What can you see there

Flying so high?

Kite:

I can see houses

And many green trees,

I can see rivers

And nice blue seas.

The Kangaroo

Today, when I was at the zoo,

I watched the mother kangaroo.

Inside her skin she has a pocket.

She puts her baby there to rock it.

 

12. Letter L

L is for lamp.

It is so bright.

It helps me to read.

It helps me to write.

The Lion

The lion says: “I want to eat.”

The lion says: “This cake is sweet.”

The lion says: “I’m hungry yet,

Give me the pie: this one and that.”

Little Girls, Little Boys

Little girls, little boys,

Come and buy my little toys;

Monkeys made of sweet bread,

And sugar horses painted red.

 

13. Letter M

M is for monkey.

It can climb a tree.

It takes two bananas

From you and from me.

Mothers

That is your mother,

I agree she is fine.

You love your mother,

And I love mine.

A Mill

There was a mill

Which stood on a hill,

And turned round and round

With a loud humming sound.

 

14. Letter N

N is for name.

What is your name?

“My name is Nelly”,

Says little Nell.

Fun with Nine

Nine and one – fun in the bright sun.

Nine and two – fun for Nick and you.

Nine and three – fun by the green tree.

A Net

There was a net

Which was thrown in the sea

To catch fish for dinner

For you and for me.

 

15. Letter O

O is for orange.

It is sweet and juicy.

“Give me an orange, please”,

Says sister Lucy.

One, One, One

One, one, one,

Little Jim, run!

Two, two, two,

Run after Sue!

Three, three, three,

And then after me!

An Owl

An owl is grey or white.

An owl can see in the night.

An owl has very big eyes,

And it looks for grey little mice.

 

16. Letter P

P is for pencils.

With them we can draw:

A red pen, a green tree

Or a blue door.

A Pen and a Pencil

Peter has got a pencil,

Peter has got a pen;

He draws with his pencil

And writes with his pen.

A Pig

It’s a pig, it likes to swim,

And it likes to eat ice-cream.

Then the pig begins to cough,

And it has to take the scarf.

 

17. Letter Q

Q is for Questions:

How are you?

How old are you?

And How do you do?

A Queen

This is a queen,

And she likes to sing.

The song is too short.

Let us applaud!

A Quail

There was a quail

With a very short tail;

And he fed upon corn

In the evening and morn.

 

18. Letter R

R is for rose

That grows sweet and red.

“I take care of my roses”,

Says little Ted.

Rain

Rain on the grass,

And rain on the tree

Rain on the river,

But not on me.

What is Red?

“What is red?” asks little Fred.

His sister says, “My bag is red.”

“What is red?” again asks Fred.

His brother says, “My pen is red.”

 

19. Letter S

S is for the snow.

S is for the sun.

Let’s play in the snow.

Let’s lie in the sun.

S is for spring and for summer too!

When it’s warm and the sky is blue.

A Little Snake

We can go to the lake,

We can see a little snake.

It is lying in the grass.

It is saying “Hi!” to us.

Sixty Seconds

Sixty seconds make a minute,

Sixty times the clock ticks in it.

Sixty minutes make an hour.

To stop its flight we have no power.

 

20. Letter T

T is for tea

We like to drink.

We drink tea with sugar

And sometimes with milk.

Tick-Tock

“Tick-tock, tick-tock,”

Ticks Tommy’s clock.

 “Tick-tock, tick-a-tock,”

Ticks and ticks his clock.

A Tiger

A tiger is orange and black.

A tiger is looking for snack.

It doesn’t like sausage,

It doesn’t like meat,

It likes sweets and candies to eat.

 

21. Letter U

U is for umbrella

That is good in the rain.

“Give me an umbrella!”,

Says little Jane.

Under the Sky

Under the sky

And under the trees,

My friend and I

Often play in the breeze.

Uncle Upton

Uncle Upton wants to walk,

And he looks at his new clock,

Takes the umbrella for the rain

And looks at his clock once again.

V is in Five and also in Seven,

It is in Twelve and in Eleven.

Let’s Count!

Five plus seven, and twice eleven.

Five from seven, and twice eleven.

Five plus eleven, and twice seven.

Five from eleven, and twice seven.

Five and eleven, twelve and seven.

A Villa

There was a villa

Which stood on a hill,

By the side of a river,

And close to a mill.

 

23. Letter W

W is for where.

W is for what.

“Where is your house?”,

Asks brother Scott.

A Whale

There was a whale

With a very long tail,

Whose movements were frantic

Across the Atlantic.

A Wolf

A wolf is angry, a wolf is grey.

It says to a rabbit: “Let us play!”

“With you? Oh no, I won’t play,” –

The rabbit says and goes away.

 

24. Letter X

X is in Six. Let’s count up to six!

One, two, three, four, five, six!

Six, Six, Six

Six, six, six, two and four is six.

Six, six, six, one and five is six.

Six, six, six, three and three is six.

A Little Ox

It’s a little funny ox,

It is sitting in the box.

It likes to play with you and me.

Where is it? Come and see.

25. Letter Y

Y is for yellow.

Y is for yes.

“Let’s play a little”,

Says little Bess.

A Yak

What is it? It is a yak.

It is strong and big, and dark.

Once a sad yak meets a cow,

And they are the best friends now.

A Yew

There was a yew,

Which flourished and grew

By a quiet abode

Near the side of a road.

 

26. Letter Z

Z is for zebra.

Z is for zoo.

Look at the zebra

At the zoo.

A Zebra

A zebra buys a telephone,

And now it is not alone.

It calls the elk, it calls the deer

And says: “Hello! Hello, my dear!”

The Zoo

I like to go to the zoo.

Come with me to the zoo.

A zebu lives in the zoo.
