Morning Meetings In Middle School.
First, we have to recognize that we’ll get more out of our students if they feel safe, supported, and known well in our classrooms. The time spent building community will come back to us exponentially in fewer behavior issues and better student engagement.
Elements of Morning Meetings
Responsive Classroom, a popular teaching framework that improves school culture through evidence-based practices, created morning meetings. Just like the name suggests, morning meetings take place at the start of the school day.
Teachers allocate the first 20 minutes of class for constructive conversations and preparing students for the day ahead. During this time, students aren’t just “shooting the breeze.”
They’re actually building and practicing many important skills that are needed for academic success.
There are four basic components to morning meetings:
Why Teach About Choices Each Person Has Control Over?
Recognizing what is in our control helps young people cultivate a strong internal locus of control and sense of self-efficacy, which are important building blocks for self-esteem, compassion towards self and others, having a growth mindset, and creating plans to work towards goals, hopes, and dreams.
This is a wonderful resource to use with middle school children that often times wonder what they control. Excellent resource to use with all kids.

“Friendship”
We know that the changes that 4th and 5th grade students go through often involve changing friendships, developing new friendships, and trying to understand how to navigate the social environment of growing up. It’s definitely a perfect “opposites attract” story—and perfect for a “friends enrich our lives” discussion.

“Positive affirmations”
These positive affirmations are designed to help the students in your classroom to have a positive attitude while taking a little brain break at the same time. You can choose to have your students read them silently to themselves or chant them aloud as a class
