- There are two broad categories of causes: Lightning (and a rare chance of other natural causes) causes approximately 60% of wildfires. Human activity causes approximately 40% of wildfires.-A series of extremely long waves caused by a large and sudden displacement of the ocean, usually the result of an earthquake below or near the ocean floor.- Nature causes of this catastrophe are drought, flooding, unseasonable cold, typhoons, vermin depredations, insect infestations, and plant diseases. The most common human cause is warfare, which destroys crops and food supplies and disrupts the distribution of food.
