Introduction
T. Good morning children! Our today’s lesson I want to begin with the words “taking care of the Earth is everybody’s business’’
Now look at the board and tell me, please, what do you associate this picture with?
And now tell me, please, what do you think, what is the topic of our lesson?
Yes, the theme of our lesson is “Ecological problems’’
Now, based on your knowledge of biology lessons, tell me what is ecology?
Pupils’ answers:
As you see the theme of our lesson is not new. Today we continue speaking about ecological problems and the aim of our lesson is : after discussing the ecological problems to find the green solutions and at home to be ready to describe the ecological problems in our town.
Vocabulary work:
T. And now , let’s consolidate our vocabulary based on the theme Ecology .I’ll give you some words :
I group- cards with the new words
II group -the cards with their definitions
You are given 4-5 min. and your task is to find your pair, that means to find the right definition of the words.
To pollute – to make air water soil etc. dangerously dirty and not suitable for people to use.
Environment- all the situations, events people, etc. that influence the way in which people live or work.

Poison-substance causing death or harm damage or illness.
Urgent- needing prompt decision or action.
Now to revise your vocabulary deeply I’ll give you some cards
I group- your task is to fill in the missing words
II group-to make your sentences using these words
Listening
T. Now tell me please do you know any song or poem about nature?
Pupils’ answers
Now I’ll read you a poem twice. After reading I’ll give you some cards with this poem . Some words will be missed. Your task will be to complete the poem.
Today you cut down your forests,
But the planet needs our leaves.
Please stop it because tomorrow
You ‘ii have no air to breath!
Cause nothing is forever
And nature is getting tired
If we don’t stop and think today
Tomorrow the Earth could die
You can have a bath or a shower
But today is the time to think
Save the rivers because without them
You will have no water to drink
Today we are still in your forests,
In the sky, in the rivers, but look
Dont kill us! Because your children
Will see us in picture books.
(Missing words: forests(2), to breath, nature, planet, rivers(2), picture books, water, the Earth)
T.I agree with it that the nature is under threat. I’d like to use one poet’s words: ‘’ Men must keep forest for their children, it’s their duty’’. I advise you to protect our forests for our future generation. Now think 2 minutes and give the title to the poem.
Pupils’ answers:
Reading
I see you remember all the words based on your topic ecology. From your Geography lessons you know that we live on the Earth and everything around us is part of it. We depend on animals and plants, on the rivers, on the sun and on the planets around us.But there are serious Ecoligical problems on the Earth. And now attention please!
After reading the text I want to invite you to ecological club « Man and Nature» to exchange your opinions on the global problems how to protect our Earth, how to prevent further pollution. Before discussing lets read the text. It is divided into 3 parts
I part- reading a chain and get ready to answer my questions
1. What is the fastest-spreading disease of civilization?
2. What planet wide problems have overpopulation, pollution and energy consumption created?
3. What is happening to the seas and rivers?
II part – read in whisper and get ready to translate my word and word combinations into English
Кожні десять хвилин;
Harmful substances;
3забруднення повітря;
One million species that are alive today;
дуже серйозна проблема;
згубні наслідки.
III part- read silently during 3 minutes and get ready to fill the cards.
Card: Even greater environmental threats are…….
….... Chernobyl disasters are.
People are beginning to realize that……..
We’ll be able to avoid the disaster that threatens the natural world and all of us with it if………
Environmental Protection
The poisoning of the world's land, air, and water is the fastest-spreading disease of civilization. It probably produces fewer headlines than wars, earthquakes and floods, but it is potentially one of history's greatest dangers to human life on earth. If present trends continue for the next several decades, our planet will become uninhabitable.
Overpopulation, pollution and energy consumption have created such planet-wide problems as massive deforestation, ozone depletion, acid rains and the global warming that is believed to be caused by the greenhouse effect.
The seas are in danger. They are filled with poison: industrial and nuclear waste, chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The Mediterranean is already nearly dead; the North Sea is following. The Aral Sea is on the brink of extinction. If nothing is done about it, one day nothing will be able to live in the seas.
Every ten minutes one kind of animal, plant or insect dies out for ever. If nothing is done about it, one million species that are alive today will have become extinct twenty years from now.
Air pollution is a very serious problem. In Cairo just breathing the air is life threatening- equivalent to smoking two packs of cigarettes a day.
Industrial enterprises emit tons of harmful substances. These emissions have disastrous consequences for our planet. They are the main reason for the greenhouse effect and acid rains. Even greater environmental threats are nuclear power stations. We all know how tragic the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster are.
People are beginning to realize that environmental problems are not somebody else's. They join and support various international organization and green parties. If governments wake up to what is happening- perhaps we'll be able to avoid the disaster that threatens the natural world and all of us with it.
DISCUSSING THE PROBLEMS OF ECOLOGY
And now, based on the text and your knowledge of environmental problems , express your opinion. Look at the slide and during 4-5 minutes in groups on the colored sheets of paper about the fact and the cause of the problems and put them on the board.
Conclusion
T. And now, to sum up our discussion let’s make up some solutions what must people do to protect or save the nature.
Pupils’ answers
T. You are right, think globally but not locally. Take sheets of papers and write your piece of advice, your green solution and put them on the board.
So, if everybody follows your advice how to solve environmental problems, we’ll be able to save our planet for our future generation.
H/T
Write a composition about the environmental problems in our town.
Thank you for the lesson.
