“LET’S TALK ABOUT PROFESSIONS”

T: Today we are going to talk about jobs. For every person it is necessary to make a right choice in their life. In our lesson we’ll try to find out what we are interested in and give some tips to each other for choosing our future career.

 

Teaching Objectives

  1. To form student’s ability of using their imagination while discussing different situations.
  2. To reinforce vocabulary on the topic.
  3. Practice using Present Perfect and Present  Perfect Continuous
  4. Practice asking general questions in the Present Simple Tense.
  5. To develop listening and speaking skills on the material covered.
  6. To identify and describe the qualities and traits of various professions.
  7. To develop free speaking using personal experience and knowledge, exchanging opinions on the subject.
  8. To teach students to respect all points of view without self-interest or prejudice. To widen student’s outlook and help them understand the importance of every profession.

Would you like to work in a large hotel in the centre of London? During the busy summer period , we need staff to work in the kitchens and restaurants. Staff work six days a week. Good pay and free meals , accommodation at international  student hostel- five minutes from the hotel!

CAN YOU SPEAK A FOREIGN  LANGUAGE? DO YOU LIKE MEETING PEOPLE?

We need tourist guides who speak French, German, Italian or Spanish to work on our “York City Tour” buses throughout  the summer. We give you full training and information about the city of York. Good pay.

JENNIFER’S POSTCARD

     Had a good journey here and the weather is brilliant!  The other students are nice and friendly. We live in a small house on the farm  but we have our meals with the family in the farmhouse (Mrs Thomson is a great cook!) The work is hard- we get up at 5.30 and have a big cooked breakfast ,  then start work. We have a couple of hours off in the middle of the day when it is very hot and of course we’re free in the evening .  Mr Thomson has got some bicycles so Jay, Meg and I went for a bike ride yesterday into the countryside.

   Hope you’re having a good holiday on the boat – please give my love to your parents. See you soon!

10.          WRITING

T: It’s common practice for companies to have individual interviews with applicants. During the interview the employer will try to find out what kind of a person you are, what experience and qualifications you have. Let’s write the rules for a successful interview.

POSSIBLE RULES:

  1. Be punctual- be on time.
  2. Be honest- don’t make up things about yourself.
  3. Get dressed formally.
  4. Keep eye contact during the interview.
  5. Ask questions to find more about your duties.

First impression is the most important.

T: Well, choosing a career in your life is a very serious task. All professions are equally good and noble. I would like to finish our lesson with the following advice for you:

  1.      Make a good choice not because this or that profession is highly profitable. Choose it according to your abilities and inclinations;
  2.      You may follow in the footsteps of your parents but on condition that it is just to your liking.

HOME ASSIGNMENT

T: Write a composition about your future profession. Here are some things that you could write about:

  •          What job do you think you will do ? Why?
  •          What will you do to get this job?
  •          What will you do if you can’t get the job you want?
