«Міс Великобританія»

Мета: узагальнити знання з тем "Introduction", "Amazing Britain"; активізувати лексико-граматичний матеріал (Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, Past Simple), який є найуживанішим у повсякденному усному мовленні; вдосконалити навички аудіювання, читання, усного мовлення;  розвинути комунікабельність у спілкуванні з однолітками, пам'ять, мислення, мовну здогадку, творчі здібності учнів; вчити їх вільно мислити, виходячи за рамки шкільного шаблона; показати використання комп’ютерних технологій на уроці англійської мови; виховувати позитивне ставлення до традицій і звичаїв інших народів; заохотити учнів до подальшого вивчення англійської мови.

Обладнання: стіннівки про кожну з учасниць, повітряні кульки, надпис «Miss Great Britain", екран, ноутбук, чотири відео про частини Великобританії, чотири слайд-шоу про традиції та символи ( Англія, Уельс, Шотландія, Північна Ірландія). 

Хід заходу

T. Good afternoon, dear pupils, teachers  and guests. It’s a pleasure to see you in our show «Miss Great Britain". Four pretty girls from four different parts of the United Kingdom will take part in it. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have sent their representatives. 

It’s not only a wonderful performance, but also it’s a good chance to improve your language skills in  listening and pronunciation.   As for our contestants, they will have excellent possibility in practice their speech. I wish you to have a good time, and I hope you’ll get satisfaction. So, let’s start.

       Let me introduce our charming contestants. Meet Miss England, Miss Scotland, Miss Wales, Miss Northern Ireland.

 Task I.  Our  beautiful girls have to introduce themselves. And our  first girl is Miss England.

Miss England.  (Дівчина розповідає про себе). My name is Yulia. I’m from England. I’m 15 years old. I enjoy going to the theatre and to the cinema. I also like drawing a lot. I have been attending the Art Studio for 4 years. I think my skills in drawing will influence my choice of profession in future. Besides, I see nothing bad in developing a good imagination and artistic taste. I’m really interested in learning more about the countries in Europe.

T.  She is perfect. Do you agree with me, boys?

T. Our next contestant is miss Scotland.

Miss Scotland.  (Дівчина розповідає про себе) Hi! My name is Maryna. I’m from Scotland. I am 16 years old. I’ve got many hobbies and interests. Sport is my favourite activity. I spend nearly three hours every day on it. I enjoy jogging in the morning and training in the fitness centre in the afternoon. Sometimes I go to the swimming pool. Although my studies at school take a lot of my time during the day I try to lead a healthy lifestyle and keep fit. I also love travelling. Famous places attract me like magnets from year to year. Thanks to my parents I spend almost all school holidays visiting different places in Great Britain and abroad. I have been to Germany and Italy. I have visited many of the cities in my motherland. Travelling helps me to discover the mysteries of the surrounding world, see new places and meet friends.

T.  Look! The girls are not only pretty, but also intelligent and fit.

T.  So, meet miss Wales.

Miss Wales. (Дівчина розповідає про себе) Hello! My name is Elen. I’m from Wales. I was born on the sixth of August in 1994, so I’m 15 now. I’ve got lots of hobbies and interests. I’m keen on music and enjoy playing the piano. I practice a lot every  day. My teacher always says that it is one of the best instruments. Many famous composers played it. You can play different styles of music on it. I started playing three years ago.
T.  She is pretty and talented.  Let’s go on. Welcome Miss Northern Ireland.

Miss Northern Ireland. (Дівчина розповідає про себе) Hi! My name is Yulia. I’m 15. I’m from Northern Ireland. My native city is Belfast. I was born there and I’ve living there for all my life. I enjoy going to the theatre and to the cinema more than doing sports. My hobby is  singing. I studied singing 3 years ago. I think my skills of singing will influence my choice of profession in future. As for music I like both classical and popular. Thanks to my parents – they always support me all my beginnings.

T.  It’s fantastic! Everyone of them is beautiful, smart and intelligent as well as talented.

Task ІІ

T. Each nation has its own customs and traditions. They are really so important for every man, woman and child. There’s a well-known proverb:" When in Rome, do as Romans do". It’s  true , now the girls tell us about customs and traditions of their native lands.

So let’s start from England. (Показ відео ролика про Англію). England is mainly lowland, except for six major hill regions. One of them is Pennines. It’s called the “ backbone of England” and divides the north west of  England from the north east. London is the capital of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It’s a city where ancient and modern live side by side and it’s a great place to visit.

 Miss England. The symbol of  England is red rose, and English people are crazy about gardening. The English are also famous for their love of animals. A lot of families have pets. English football is famous, of course, but there is another national sport, cricket. English people like to talk about the weather. There are a lot of  interesting sights in England: The Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, National Gallery, Westminster Abbey, The tower Bridge, The Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral and many others.

T. Now we’ll move onto Scotland. (Показ відео ролика про Шотландію) In Scotland the greater part of the population is concentrated in the more lowland areas between Glasgow and Edinburg. Edinburg is the capital of Scotland and one of  Europe’s finest cities that has hardly changed for centuries. Coming north out of  Edinburg you cross the Forth bridge. The bridge is so long that it takes over 4 years to paint. On the edge of large nature reserve is Aviemore, the most important winter sports resort in Britain. Not far from Aviemore is very deep lake which has an air of mystery. Its name’s Loch Ness.

Miss Scotland. Scotland is very famous for its beautiful scenery and the lakes called locks. An important symbol of Scotland is special kind of material called tartan. Another Scottish symbol is the thistle. People in Scotland play very unusual musical instrument called bagpipes.

T. Next we are going to Wales. (Показ відео ролика про Уельс) 

Welcome to Wales. North West to Wales there’s a land where everyone speaks English and some also speak the much older language of  Welsh. It’s a land of beautiful mountain scenery and music. The capital of  Wales is Cardiff. With the population of  300,000, Cardiff is Wales’ largest city. In about 75 A. D. Roman soldiers built a fort on the place that is now Cardiff. An intriguing place is Port-Meirion. It’s a complete Italian hill-town, built by an eccentric Welshman who had a passion for Italian architecture. In land from Port-Merion is Snowdonia.  As well as mountain climbing Snowdonia is excellent for canoeing and walking.

T. And now here is our third contestant miss Wales.

Miss Wales. A red dragon is probably the oldest symbol of  Wales is vegetable called the leek. People wear them on their coats on St. David’s Day, the Welsh national holiday, although some people wear another symbol of  Wales – the daffodil. Welsh people are famous  for singing and musical festivals.

T. Now we’ll move on the Northern Ireland. (Показ відеоролика про Північну Ірландію)
From Scotland  it’s only two and half  hours by ferry, or less than an hour by plane, to Northern Ireland. The area of  Northern Ireland is small, you can get anywhere in less than two and half  hours. The two main cities are Belfast, the capital, and Londonderry. You will probably think of the Northern Irish as an unfortunate people, divided by race, religion and history. But you will pleasantly surprised at how warm and friendly they are. Belfast has many fine buildings and all the amenities of a big city. Londonderry, or Derry as it’s also called, is a fine, old city, full of history. Bells castle is typical of the lovely bustling market towns. But perhaps the greatest appeal of  Northern Ireland is its scenery. Its lakes, hills and landscapes offer peace and quiet despite its troubles.

T. So, finally our last beauty is Miss Northern Ireland.

Miss Northern Ireland. The most famous symbol of  Ireland is shamrock. In Ireland you may see different shades and tones of green. Green is one of the symbols of Ireland and everybody wears green on St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish national holiday. Task 3.  And now, girls, our next competition.  I know each of  you are talented. And now,  you will show us your talents.
 T. Literature and music reflects the life of people who created it. Poets do not only explain their thoughts on the paper, they express  their deepest sorrows or happiness.  Our next  competition is reciting poems and sing songs.
The girls were given the task to recite their favorite poems or sing the song.

Task 4. So,  our  last  competition is “Who knows Great Britain best of all?”

11. What is the longest river of Great Britain? (The Severn)
12. When do British people celebrate Christmas? (on the 25th of December)

 

T.  Well we've come to  the end of  our show and now jury have  to sum up who will be crowned and get the title of Great Britain.
