Journalism. Defoe is the father of modern English periodicals. The first English newspaper “The Review” 1704 – 1713 At the age of 23 he started writing pamphlets. In 1702 Daniel attacked the Tories and the Church in his pamphlet. He was sentenced to 7-year imprisonment. Defoe used at least 198 pennames.
Literary Career. Daniel Defoe – the father of the English novel. He started writing novel at 60.“The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe” – the first English novel in prose. Defoe finally became rich. Two sequels were published.
