The capital of UKRAINE is Kyiv, located on the Dniper River in north-central part of Ukraine. It was founded in 482 bc

The major part of the territory is flat and only 5% of the whole territory is mountainous. The two mountainous areas in Ukraine are the Carpathian Mountains and the Crimean Mountains, but they are not very high. The highest mountain is Hoverla.

The longest river of Ukraine is the Dnipro river. The main rivers are the Dniester, the Buh, the Donets.

Historical and cultural events. The fist name of Ukraine was initially mentioned in the Hipatian Codex in approximately 1187, referring to the name of the territory of the Principality of Pereyaslav

Zaporizhska Sich is a socio-political and military-administrative organization of the Ukrainian Cossacks, founded in 1553-1554, today recognized as one of the first democratic organizations in the world.

Cossacks are an ancient phenomenon. As the Ukrainian professor Mykhailo Hrushevskyi wrote, the first official mention of the Cossacks appeared in 1492.

In the 17th century, the Cossacks founded their own Cossack state and called it the Cossack Hetmanate or Hetmanshchyna under the leadership of the first Hetman, Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. 

The Cossacks built the Sich, the center of Cossack’S life. The most famous is Zaporizhs. KA Sich on the island of Khortytsia in the Dnipro river. The highest authority in each Sich was a council. in which all Cossacks had the rights. High ramparts surrounded Sich with a barrier and log cabins for guns. Cossacks lived in huts “kureni”. There was also a church.

The world's first constitution, which outlined the rights of citizens and the government, was drafted and put into effect in 1710 by Ukrainian hetman Pylyp Orlyk. For comparison, the constitution was drafted and adopted in 1787.

Nowadays the Constitution is also the main document. It was adopted at the 5th Sessionof the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraineon 28 June 1996

the composition "Summertime" was written By George Gershwin on the basis of the Ukrainian carol "Oi, khod. Yt son kolo vikon", which was performed by the National Choir of Ukraine under the direction of Oleksandr Koshyts.

Ukrainians had their original dances, for example,  kozak, gopak, kozachok, metelytsia, orlytsia, grechanyky, kolomyika, gutsulka, pleskach. there were also khorovody  'Podolianochka’  etc.

the Ukrainian folk costume is The embroidery. It’s a fundamental element and identity with deep national roots.embroidery existed already in the 5th century B. C
