Persuasive Essay Plan

Many legislatures are considering a law that would lower the legal drinking age from 21 to 18 years of age. Decide whether you are for or against this proposal. Write a persuasive letter to your representative stating your position about lowering the legal drinking age. Give convincing reasons and/or specific examples to support your opinion.

State your position. You must be clear about the issue. Decide am I “for” or “against”? (No fence-straddling!) What do I want the audience to do about it? List three reasons why I am “for” or “against” Each reason gets a paragraph. (Bake the Cakes! In each paragraph, examples follow reasons.) Construct introductions and conclusions using audience, issue, stance, and action.
