History of Ukrainian national flag Ancient Ukrainian flags were triangular shape, and in the XIII-XIV centuries they were rectangular flags. Flag of the Principality of Kiev was red with a gold trident and Galicia-Volyn banner was a dove with a golden lion. Prince Daniel Galician gave his residents emblem, which depicts a gold lion on a blue background. A flag is usually made according to the colors of the coat of arms of a land or country.
History of Ukrainian national flag In the eighteenth century flags with a combination of yellow and blue were spread. In 1717 flags of Poltava Cossack Regiment were consists of dove and yellow fabric, and in 1758 Lubensky Regiment developed sketches: on blue background was image of Cossack on a gold shield.
