Renewable and non-renewable energy

What is renewable energy? Energy that comes from a source that won’t run out, no matter how much people use that. It is natural and replenishing. It usually includes: SOLAR ENERGYWIND ENERGYHYDROPOWERBIOENERGYGEOTHERMAL

SOLAR ENERGY The amount of sunlight we get can vary greatly depending on location, season and time of day. Sunlight is a very important source of energy. There are two forms of energy generated from the sun for our use – electricity and heat. Both are generated through the use of solar panels, which range in size. Installing solar panels on your home helps combat greenhouse gas emissions and reduces our collective dependence on fossil fuel. 

WIND POWER Wind is another renewable source of energy. The wind is a clean, free, and readily available renewable energy source.  Many parts of the world have strong wind speeds. Big wind turbines use the kinetic energy of the wind to produce electricity.  Only one disadvantage:the speed of wind keeps changing.

HYDROPOWERHydropower is created using the movement of flowing or falling water. Hydroelectric power plants are found at dams and generate electricity through underwater turbines that turn a generator. Hydropower reservoirs often have multiple uses - providing drinking water, water for irrigation , etc.

BIOENERGY The energy stored in dead or living plant and animal matter is called biomass energy. The energy is stored in all organisms. Burning of biomass releases energy in the form of heat. Most biomass is used in rural areas for cooking, lighting and space heating, generally by poorer populations in developing countries.

Geotherma. L A lot of energy is stored beneath the Earth in the form of magma. It comes from heat generated during the original formation of the planet and the radioactive decay of materials. This thermal energy is stored in rocks and fluids in the centre of the earth and can be used for heating homes and generating electricity.

Advantages of renewable energy Some of the top benefits of using an alternative energy source: Renewable energy won’t run out. Renewable energy has lower maintenance requirements. Renewable energy saves money. Renewable energy has numerous environmental benefits. Renewable energy lowers reliance on foreign energy sources. Renewable energy leads to cleaner water and air. Renewable energy creates jobs. Renewable energy can cut down on waste

Non-renewable energy resources are fossil fuels such as oil, coal, natural gas, etc., which people draw to produce energy. They are limited in supply and cannot be replaced quickly. Сoal, oil, natural gas use increases carbon emissions. Nuclear Power produces radioactive wastes which can be dangerous and harmful for our environment for a long time.
