Тема: What happened?

Objectives: - by the end of the lesson Ss will learn to identify specific information in the newspaper interview.

Aims: - give Ss practice in reading;

  • Give Ss practice in identifying the Past Simple of irregular verbs in the

newspaper interview.

 

Procedure.

 

1 Lead-in:

Today we are going to read a story about 2 boys. Open your books on p.92. Read the title of the text: “Dave Stone – a young hero”.

Who is a hero? – It is a person who does something good to help people.

What do you think is the story about? Look at the pictures.

Is the story about two boys? Are the boys fishing or swimming?

Look at picture B: Is the boy in the water?

Look at picture C: Is a man helping the boys?

Look at picture D: Are the boys in the boat or on the island?

2 Introduction of a new vocabulary:

I write the word “interview” on the board.

Children, look at the story: Is it a text? Is it an interview? Why do you think so? Are there questions? Are there answers?

So, what is it? Yes, it’s an interview.

3 Revision of the vocabulary:

Before you read, look at the words:

Underwater camera

Can we take pictures with it under water?

Boat overturned

I draw  an overturned boat on the board.

3 Pre-reading task:

Now , you are going to listen to the story and your task is to tick correct pictures.

What are we going to do?

Are you ticking all pictures or correct pictures?

Learners are listening to the story.

Check with the class: How many correct pictures are there? Yes, there are 3. What are they? – Yes, a, b, d.

4 While reading:

Now, read the story. You have 5 minutes to do the task.

 Learners are reading the story.

5 Post- reading:

I ask some comprehension questions:  How old is Dave?

 Is he a swimming champion? When did the boys go fishing?

Who was Dave with? Who is Collin? What did Collin have?

What happened to the boat? Where were the boys at night?

Did they call their parents? Why? Who helped them?

6 Work in groups:

I divide learners into groups of 4and Ls answer the questions Task B p.92. 

In 5 minutes we check answers with the class.

7 I ask learners to do ex.C p.92:

Now, your task is to find the past Simple of the verbs: fall, sleep, take, find, put, swim, see in the text.

We check the past forms with the class.

8 Sum up:

Is it good to help other people? Have you ever helped other people?

Do you know real heroes? Who is this person? What did he do?

9 Homework: WB p.71 ex.A,B
