1 The first of September

 The first of September is the first day of school. It is a happy day for all schoolchildren and their parents. It is especially a great holiday for those boys and girls who are beginning to go to school.

Let’s go out and see what people are doing in the streets this morning. There are a lot of schoolchildren in the streets. They are going to school. Boys and girls are carrying schoolbags, many of them have flowers in their hands. Small children are going with their parents at their side.

There are pupils in the schoolyard. They are not playing games this morning. They are speaking about the summer holidays, about their new teachers and what is new at school. Music is playing and soon a meeting begins. The pupils, their parents and other people listen to the headmaster’s speech. Then small children are ringing the bell. The pupils are going to their classrooms and school year is beginning.

2 My pet

The happiest day in my life was, when I was presented with a puppy. I named him Charlie. He was so nice. When he tried to run for me, he waddled in a funny way. Now he has grown up and become so clever.

He has brown wool, a short tail and funny ears. I like to go for a walk with him. When we walk, I teach Charlie to do different commands: give a paw, count and dance. He does it with pleasure. And besides I want him to teach to carry my schoolbag!

He is very friendly. He eats even from one bawl with our kittens.

Recently I was ill and my mother said that Charlie was so unhappy! I love my dog very much.

3 My family

My family is neither large nor small. There are four of us: my mother, my father, my brother and me. My father is 47 years old. He is an engineer. He works in the office. He is always busy. He has very little free time. He likes his job. My mother is a teacher of music. She works a lot. She does her house-work and I always help her. My brother is 23 years old. He is a student. He is not married yet and has no family of his own.

I have two grandmothers and one grandfather. I love them very much and often go to see them. When they have free time they like to work in the garden.   We have many relatives. My aunts, uncles and cousins live in different parts of Ukraine. On holidays they often come to our place. We have a very good time together. I love my family very much.

4 My classroom

This is my classroom. It is light, clean and large. The room is nice. Its ceiling and walls are white; its floor is brown. There is one door and three windows in it. When it is warm, they are open. When it is cold, they are shut. The door is always shut when we have our lessons.

There is a blackboard on the wall. We write on it. On the blackboard there are some words. They are English words. We read them: "We want to know English." We sit on chairs in front of desks. The desks are nice and green. The teacher's desk in near the blackboard. There are not many pupils in our class. There are only sixteen in it.              

We also play different games and have fun in it. I think my classroom is the best place at school.

5 My hobby

Many people have hobbies. They make our life more interesting. A hobby is what people like to do when they have free time. Some people are fond of music, others like to read books. Some people like to collect stamps, coins or badges, others prefer gardening or hiking or taking photographs. Some people like to cook, others like to watch TV.

As for me, my hobby is playing computer games. Both adults and children are fond of it now. It has become one of the most popular hobbies nowadays. I think that playing with a computer is very interesting. It is not only "wasting time" as some people say.

I have a good collection of different games and when I have some free time I play them with great pleasure. Some of my friends have the same hobby and we like to play together.

6 My working day

I am going to tell you about my working day. I usually get up at 7 o’clock. I do my morning exercises and go to the bathroom. I wash my face and hands, clean my teeth in the bathroom. Then I dress and make my bed. I am glad to see my family in the kitchen. We sit at the table and have our breakfast together. Then I say “Bye” to my parents and go to school.

I usually have 5 or 6 lessons at school. I`m good at many subjects but my favourite lessons are English and Reading. I like to go to school because I have many friends there and I like to study.

 I come back home from school at 3 o’clock. I have my dinner and wash up. Then I go for a walk with my friends or help my mother about the house. As a good student I do my homework at 5 o’clock. At 7 o`clock we have supper. At the family table we eat and speak about our last day. I say “Goodnight” to my parents and go to bed at 10 o’clock.

7. My birthday

Birthday is a very wonderful day. Everybody likes to celebrate it. It is a good chance to spend time with friends, parents, relatives.

My birthday is on the 10th of January. In the morning on my birthday my parents come to my place and say: "Happy Birthday!" They give me presents. I enjoy getting them.

Usually we hold my birthday party in the evening. Once we went to a cafe to celebrate my birthday, but usually we celebrate it at home. We clean the house the day before birthday.

In the morning of birthday party day my father goes shopping and buys everything we need. My mother bakes a cake. In the evening we put on evening suits and dresses and wait for the guests. The flat looks nice and cozy. I am always very glad to meet my guests. We have a holiday dinner on this day. Mom brings in the birthday cake. I blow the candles out. We dance and sing songs, play games and laugh, joke, tell funny stories. I think that my birthday is one of the best days in a year.

8. My favourite TV programme

Hello! My name is ……. I’d like to tell you about my favourite TV programme. Everybody likes to watch TV and everybody has a favourite TV programme.

I like to watch “Week of Sport” very much because I like sport. My favourite sport is football. I also like tennis and basketball. My favourite programme is about hockey, football, tennis, basketball and other kinds of sport. I usually watch it with my father. This TV programme is on Channel “1+1”. It’s on Sunday at 7 o’clock in the evening. I like to watch films and cartoons very much too. My favourite cartoon is “The Lion King”. I usually watch cartoons with my younger sister.

I like to watch “Animal life” because I like animals very much. My favourite animals are dogs. I also like horses, cats and parrots. My favourite TV programme is about wild and domestic animals. I usually watch it with my brother. My favourite TV programme is on Channel “1+1”. It’s on Sunday and Monday at 10 o’clock in the morning. I like to watch films and cartoons too. My favourite cartoon is “The Lion King”. I usually watch cartoons with my younger brother.

9. My winter holidays

Winter holidays are shorter than summer ones. They begin at the end of December and last about two weeks. It is so nice to have a rest from school.

During winter holidays we celebrate the New Year’s Eve and Christmas. There are New Year parties for children at schools.

It is usually very cold in winter, but frost and snow can’t keep children indoors. It’s so great to go skiing down a hill. Boys like to play hockey on the ice. Many children like to go skating. Some children play snowballs and make snowmen.

When the weather is bad, I stay at home and watch TV. There is always something interesting on during winter holidays. Sometimes my friends come to see me and we play computer games or listen to music. There is also more time for reading, drawing and other hobbies.

Holidays pass quickly and soon it’s time to go to school again.

10. Seasons and clothes

There are four seasons in the year. Each of them brings different weather and different dresses.

When it is hot people wear T-shirts and shorts, light blouses and skirts, sport shoes, socks and sandals. In summer people dress like this in Africa, Canada, Great Britain and America. In cold weather people usually put on warm clothes: jeans and trousers, sweaters and jackets, overcoats and caps. In winter they wear fur coats and fur caps, high boots and mittens or gloves. The proverb says: everything is good in its season.

When you think what to wear, choose the right dress. Think what is good at the sports ground and what is good at the party and why a long dress looks beautiful on a woman but is funny on a little girl. When you buy clothes, try them on, make sure that they are your size, that they suit you well and that you like their colour.
