American breakfast is a large morning meal in a hotel or restaurant in America. It usually includes several choices from such items as juice, cereal, eggs with ham or bacon, pancakes, toast, and “hash browns” – potatoes that have been cut into small pieces and fried.
A full English breakfast is a large breakfast consisting of fruit juice, cereal, a cooked dish (usually bacon and eggs, sometimes with sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes), toast with butter and jam, and tea or coffee. Few British people eat so much for breakfast at home but many enjoy “a full English breakfast” when staying in a hotel.
Continental breakfast is a light breakfast of the type eaten in some European countries. The phrase is used mainly by hotels and restaurants and not by people in their own homes. A continental breakfast consists typically of rolls or croissants with butter and jam, and coffee to drink.
