Transcript.

1. Yes, right. I am going to feed the chickens now. Then I need to check the horses. Yes…yes. OK. What? No! That wasn’t me, it was the pig. OK, see you later.

2. I see. So you want a house with eight bedrooms and… how many bathrooms? Six. No problem. Well, no, sometimes I design houses bigger than that! Now, I need some idea of the style of building you want. Yes… OK…

3. Good morning, Westlake Pharmaceuticals, Mrs. Green office. I’m sorry, Mrs. Green is busy at the moment. Yes, she‘s in the meeting. No, I can’t interrupt her, I’m afraid. Can I take a message? And who shall I say called? Her mother. Ok, no problem. Goodbye.

4. Yes, hello? Yes, we’ve got a problem here. I’m standing on the back wall of the house, but the windows are the wrong size. They don’t fit. No, it’s definitely not my fault. I didn’t order the windows. We need to get some more. I don’t know. Maybe two weeks? It’s bad news, because the weather is getting worse…

5. Hello, Madeley’s. Yes, we have those jeans n most sizes. Extra large? Just a moment, I’ll check. Yes, we do. No, I’m sorry, they aren’t in the sale – they’re full price. That’s 45 pounds. We’re open until six o’clock this evening. Yes…OK. Bye.

6. Good afternoon. I see – and what’s the problem with your cat? He’s feeling unwell. Is he eating? Hmm.  And how old is he? Five. OK, well you’d better bring him to the surgery. Yes, we have appointments this afternoon – in fact, I can see him myself at half past four. Great.  And the name?  Sylvester. Is this Ms. or Mrs.? Oh, that’s the cat’s name. What’s yours?

Answers: 1) Farmer 2) Architect 3) Secretary 4) Builder 5) Shop assistant  6) Vet

(slide 14)

Now check your answers in pairs. Then look at the right answers on the screen and compare.  Were your answers correct? Well done!

2. Running dictation.

And now I’d like you to move a little. I know you like running dictations very much. As you know first of all we should split into groups. Each of you gets a card with the name of an animal. You must make this animal’s sounds and listen attentively to your classmates. If you hear the same sounds as yours, you must make a group with these students. (for example – dogs bark and cats meow. In such a way students split into groups).

Excellent! We have four groups.  Sit down all together with the members of your group. Look at the walls please. You can see 4 cards with short texts there. Each group has its own text. The aim is for one of the students to run to read the text on the wall. He remembers some of the text and runs back to his partners. He dictates what he remembered to his partners, who write it down. Then they swap roles. Over several turns you will build the whole text. The winning group is the team that finishes first, but you will have the possibility to check the mistakes. If there are mistakes you must keep running. All the texts are the descriptions of some jobs and one more task for you is to guess what job it is.

Transcript.

1. I work on Saturdays and in school holidays. Saturdays are busy because that’s when everyone goes shopping. Our shop sells clothes and accessories for men, women and children. I work in the children’s department. It can be crazy sometimes, but it’s fun.

2. My job is very difficult, but I like it because I like flying. I fly planes that take people to different places on holiday. Most of the time I fly in Europe to places like Spain, Greece and Italy. The most difficult thing about my job is when the weather is bad. Snow and rains are the worst. The best thing is visiting different places.

3. I like my job, but lots of people don’t like coming to see me. Sometimes it’s very hard work, but it’s great to help people when they have a problem. It’s so important to look after your teeth.

4. I work in a hospital in the city centre. It’s a very big hospital. I help the doctors with the patients. I give them their medicine. And look after them when they feel ill. I love my job but I don’t like the uniform and sometimes I have to work at night.

Answers: 1) Shop assistant (slide 15) 2) Pilot (slide 16)  3) Dentist (slide 17)

 4) Nurse (slide 18)

Well done! All of you have written your texts. Now look at the screen and check your dictations. Have you got any mistakes? Also let’s tell what professions were described in the texts.

5. Рефлексия.

At the end of the lesson I want to thank you for such creative work. All of you were very active today and even got some prizes. At home I’d like you to write an essay about what you want to be when you grow up and why. Good bye! (slide19)
