SPORT is the goal for our lesson.
Today we’ll speak about sport, sports games and your favourite sportsmen.
Also we’ll learn new words and phrases. And we’ll get some interesting rules about
using the verbs: GO, PLAY and DO.
T. Before we start to talk about sport let`s do our sport phonetic drill:
1. Do you like sport? – Yes, I do.
2. Do you do sport? – Yes, I do.
3. What is your favorite sport? - My favorite sport is ……
T. Listen to the poem “Sports” and complete the poem.
Sport is fun for girls and boys.
It's much better than the toys.
You can sledge and ski, and skate
And play snowballs with Kate.
You can swim and play football,
Hockey, tennis, basketball.
You can jump and you can run.
You can have a lot of fun.

PLAY
We use “play” with any competitive game.
It can also be used next to sports whose name is not also the verb
(e.g. play tennis).
PLAY: tennis, golf, football, basketball, chess, etc.
GO
We use “go” with any activities you can do alone.
It is also used with sports that end in -ing (i.e. sports whose name
is also the verb / gerund).
GO: swimming, cycling, dancing, surfing, sailing, etc.
DO
We use “do” with any sport that is more of a physical activity. It is
used for recreational activities.
DO: yoga, judo, athletics, gymnastics, etc.
T: Choose the right verb (use the correct tense).
Mary and John go sailing every year. They also love to play golf. Sometimes their friends ask them to go cycling, but they don’t like that. They prefer to go horseback-riding. John also plays ice-hockey and Mary loves to go dancing. In the summer they
go swimming a lot. John and his friends all play basketball, but Mary prefers to do yoga. When it is raining Mary and John like to play chess. But in winter they always go skiing. In spring John likes to go fencing and Mary likes to do karate. Mary especially likes to do aerobics to keep fit.

Volodymyr is my favourite sportsman. He is a boxer. Volodymyr was born on March 25, 1976. He is 36. He was a good pupil and a good student. He graduated from the Perejaslav – Khmelnytskyj Pedagogical institute. Volodymyr began to go in for sport when he was 14. He went to a sport school with his elder brother Vitalij. Vitalij is a famous Ukrainian boxer, too. Volodymyr is an Honoured Master of Sports of Ukraine. He is a champion of Olympic Games in Atlanta. He is a box champion of the world and Europe. His hobby is playing the saxophone. He is very strong and clever. He is my favourite sportsman and I want to look like Volodymyr.
