на тему «The Spirit of London»

 

Вид уроку: комбінований урок-подорож

 

Мета уроку:

  • Повторити та закріпити знання учнів з вивченої теми;
  • Розвивати навички аудіювання;
  • Розвивати та удосконалювати комунікативні навички учнів;
  • Розширювати світогляд  учнів;
  • Виховувати повагу до культури країни, мова якої вивчається.

 

Обладнання:  програма Microsoft Power Point, мультимедійна дошка, роздатковий       матеріал.

 

Джерела інформації: сайти в Internet, присвячені видатним місцям Лондона, його   історії; підручники з англійської мови; пісня «London Bridge»

Good morning, boys and girls! Good morning, dear guests! I am glad to see you. How are you today? What is the weather like today? Who is absent?

If you look at the whiteboard, you will see that the topic of our lesson "The Spirit of London". Today I suggest you to travel around the capital of Great Britain. Let us look at the slide.  Слайд 2

Before starting, I wonder what places of interest you would like to visit in London. What is London associated with? Name as many sights as you can. Слайд 3

ІІІ. Розвиток навичок монологічного мовлення

So now it’s time to start our interesting trip to London –the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Today we will visit the most famous and popular places in London. We will fill the spirit of London.

The central part of London is full of historical remains. Nearly every building, every bridge, every street, palace, house, and stone — each of them has its own story, its own past. In London past and present are so mixed together that they cannot easily be separated and when you are in London you see the past in the present and the present in the past.  

Today each of students will try to be guides of our excursion. Try to remember as much as possible about London! Good luck! (Слайд 4)

P1: Good morning dear friends! Welcome to London! There are a lot of places of interest in London and today we will visit the most famous of them. Let’s start with Westminster Abbey.

Westminster Abbey is a very beautiful church built over 9 hundred years ago. It is built in the Gothic style. Almost every monarch was crowned here.  It is also famous for the rarest collection of Royal portraits.

P2: Let’s move ahead! We are standing near the Tower Bridge now. It stands over the River Thames. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful bridges in London. It is more than 100 years.

P3: Our excursion continuous. In front of us you can see the Houses of Parliament. The Houses of Parliament is the seat of the British government. It is built in the Gothic style and stretches for about 1000 feet.

P4: Move on! We are at Trafalgar Square – the centre of London. It's the most popular place for people to meet. In the middle of the square there is Nelson's Column, which is 51 m. high.

P5: We are at the Royal Albert Hall now. It is a concert hall known all over the world.

P6: Now it’s time to visit one of the most mysterious places of London. I think you understand that we are moving to the Tower of London. It is a big fortress known worldwide. During its history it was a fortress, a zoo, a prison and a royal palace. Now it is a museum open for tourists.

P7: It’s time to move back to the central part of London. We are near Victoria and Albert Museum. It is the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design, housing a collection of over 4.5 million objects. It was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. This museum has more than 145 galleries.

P8: Now we are coming to Buckingham Palace. It is the most famous place in London. It is the home of the Queen. There are 600 rooms in it. It has an indoor swimming pool and a cinema.

P9: Let’s move to more modern part of London. It’s Piccadilly Circus.  It is a place of meeting for young people with many cinemas, shops and restaurants.

P10: It’s time to have a rest! I invite you to Hyde Park. Here you can sit on the grass and read books. And then visit a beautiful rose garden and go boating on the lake.

I think you are tired a bit. Let's relax a little. Listen to the song about «London Bridge» and sing together. On your desks there are cards with the lyrics. They will help you to sing!

P11: I hope you’ve relaxed and ready to move on. There are some places left. We are in front of Tate Museum or the National Gallery of British Art. Today it is an institution that houses the United Kingdom's national collection of British Art, and International Modern and Contemporary Art.

P12: And now you can see the British Museum. It has one of the largest libraries in the world. There are many old books and manuscripts there. Many great people worked in this library.

P13: And now have a look at this wonderful building! It is one of the greatest English churches, St. Paul's Cathedral! The Famous English architect Sir Christopher Wren built it in the 17th century after the Great Fire. It took Sir Christopher Wren 35 years. Nowadays it is the largest Protestant Church in England.

On the wall near Wren’s plain tomb is an inscription in Latin: “Reader, if you seek a monument, look around”

P14: Our tour is almost finished. If you want to go shopping and buy some souvenirs for your family and friends, you can do it in Oxford Street. It is very busy street with many shops and restaurants.
