THE NINE TAILORS
The day when Jesus died was first called God’s Day, then it became Good Friday.
On this day some church services last as long as three hours, a reminder of three hours that Jesus hung upon the cross.
On this day of mourning church bells are often silenced. Indeed, silent from Maundy Thursday through to Sunday, Easter Day. ‘’The bells have flown to Rome to bring back Easter eggs,’’ small French children may be told.
Other bells toll a mourning knell which is known as the Nine Tailors. Nine times the bells sound out the same even note, then pause before ringing thirty-three times for the number of years lived by Jesus.
