Мета: систематизувати й узагальнити знання учнів по темі «The UK»,  вчити знахoдити необхідну інформацію у прослуханому тексті; сприяти poзширенню загального та країнознавчого кругозору; поглибити знання учнів про культуру та історію Beликої Британії; розвивати вміння учнів відокремлювати головне; логічно та послідовно викладати власні думки іноземною мовою, аналізувати, узагальнювати, порівнювати; самостійно будувати мовленнєву дію; розвивати мислення, слуховий контроль, зорову пам'ять та уяву; виховувати культуру мовлення, повагу до культури, історії, традицій Великої Британії, до мови, що вивчається, як засобу міжнаціонального спілкування.

I. Introduction.

T: Good morning, children. I am glad to see you. Let’s start our lesson. Today we are going to revise everything you have learned about the UK. 

Let’s start from the topic of our lesson. Look at this presentation and guess the theme.

T. – Today we will talk about the UK and its main parts, about the capital of GB – London and  it’s historical  districts, about places of interest. Do you agree?  

II. Warming-up

T: But firstly let’s have a talk with you. And now let’s repeat information which we know about this country. Look on the map and answer my questions.

1) How many parts does the United Kingdom consist of?

2) What countries make the United Kingdom?

3) What is the national language of the UK?

4) What is the capital?

5) Who is the head of the state?

7) What is the longest river?

8) What is the highest mountain?

T: Well, you know a lot about this country. And today your knowledge will become richer.

III. Main part.

1. Introducing the theme.

T: Children, today at our lesson we are to review everything from the topic «The UK».  Let’s watch the video about “Top 10 Attractions London - UK Travel Guide”  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0r0VTos_wU) and remember what famous sights are mentioned.  (Pupils are given cards with a task.) (Pupils give the names of the sights.) What is this video about? What is the main topic of this video? (London sights). (Після перегляду учні виконують завдання за картками)

2.Work with the map.

3.Reading.

T:Look through the text and be ready to find out if the facts are true or false.

The climate  of Great Britain is mild and damp due to the influence of Gulf Stream, the warm ocean current.The climate varies depending on the time of the year and the area.

England’s driest months are July and August with very little rainfall. Temperatures are warm with an average of around 25˚C. During  the winter months,the rainfall increases amazingly. Almost  every day in January and February sees rain or cold winds. Temperatures fall to a little above 0˚C and the sun is rarely seen. Wales located to the west of the island is a mountanous part. Clouds from the Atlantic causes large amount of rainfalls in this area.

                                                   London

London, one of the world’s biggest cities, situated on the river Thames, is the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. London is a great industrial and cultural centre with the population of more than eight million people. London consists of 4 main districts. They are the City, Westminster, the West End and the East End. The City is small in area, but it is the business centre of London. Many banks and offices are situated there. Westminster is the most important part of the capital. The Houses of  Parliament are there. To the West of Westminster is the West End. Here we find most of the big shops, hotels, museums, art galleries, theatres and concert halls. To the east of Westminster is the East End, an industrial district of the capital. There are no parks or gardens in the East End and you cannot see many fine houses there. Most of the plants and factories are situated there.

15. What British traditional holidays can you name? (Halloween, Christmas, Easter)  

16. What is the emblem of England? (a red rose)

Т: You should divide in 4 teams, you will get cards in which you should read the text and guess the place or building in London.

1. This charming cathedral was built by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London. (St. Paul’s Cathedral)
2. This museum has a collection of mummies, tomb, paintings and gold jewellery from Ancient Egypt. (The British Museum)
3. It has a large collection of birds and animals from all over the world. (London Zoo)
4. There you’ll see realistic, life-size wax figures of famous people. (Madame Tussauds Museum)

T: Do you want to visit Great Britain? It’s useful to know some facts about the country you are going to visit. On the blackboard you can see 4 parts of Great Britain, their flags and emblems. Match them.

V. Summing— up.

T: Our lesson is coming to its end. I’d like to say that you worked well at the lesson. So, you are hard-working children.
