T: What a beautiful day is today! It is so pleasure when the sun shines, the birds sing and the air is so clear, but …The topic of our lesson today is THE NATURE IS IN DANGER.
T: Listen to the song and answer the questions:
What catastrophes did you notice on video?
T: The “Earth song” music video was made shot on four continents, all of which are in some form of distress created by men and his technology. Locations include:
The Amazon Rainforest:
A large part of this forest, as sing in this video no longer exists. It was destined totally destroyed within a week of this video shoot. The people featured here are native to the region and are not professional actors.
Croatia
The scenes were shot in the war zone with residents of the area.
Tanzania
This footage includes Masai in their own village. No animals were harmed in any way during the making of this music video. Shock footage of the actual inhumane treatment of animals was acquired from documents archives. It should be noted that while filming was in progress an Africa elephant (not pictured in the video) was killed by poachers within miles of the shoot.
New York
The forest fire scenes were created on a six acre outdoor set in a corn field in Warwick, New York. The shooting of the footage occurred within the same week as thousands of acres of forest on Long Island and New Jersey were destroyed due to arson.
ІІ. ОСНОВНА ЧАСТИНА УРОКУ
T: Every day there are more and more animals and plants which are in danger of becoming extinct. Their natural habitats are destroyed by human activity.
Forests are cleared for farming of housing. Oceans and rivers are polluted. Animals are hunted for different reasons. The World Wide Fund for Nature has made a list of endangered species. Your task was to find out the information about these animals. Please, introduce your animals to us.
P1: Pandas live in the south west of China. They are recognised by their black and white coats. They walk in four legs and can climb trees. They live in bamboo forests and eat bamboo. Bamboo forests are cleared for farming, so there is less bamboo for pandas. They are also killed for their coats. It is believed there are only about two thousand pandas left in the world.
P2: A tiger comes from the cat family. Its very fast and can jump and swim very well. It’s got strong teeth and it kills other animals for food. This animal is in danger. People kill it for it for its beautiful fur.
P3: Dolphins live in warm waters. For example, in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. It swims 36 kilometers an hour and jumps three meters out of water. Dolphins are clever and kind animals. They are in danger because of pollution of the seas.
P4: The African elephant is the largest animal on earth. Elephants are killed for their ivory tusks. The tusks are sold on the illegal market. The tusks are used for making jewellery. The growing population of Africa makes in difficult for elephant herds to find the large areas of land they need.
P5: Sea turtles are found in the warm oceans of the world. They are hunted for their shells and meat. They live in the sea but lay their eggs an the beach. The eggs are of ten damaged. Baby turtles have just a few hours to reach the sea. There are often eaten by other animals.
P6: The Blue Iguana is Grand Caymans largest native land animal. A giant, dragon-like lizard grows to over 5 feet long. It is one of the most endange- nered animals on earth.
Help save the Blue Iguana! www.blueiguana.ky Crocodiles are big animals, which lives in warm waters of Africa, South America and Australia. Crocodiles are in danger because people kill them for their skin. It is used for making shoes and bags.
T: now you see a poem on your desks. Let’s read and explain it.
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO THE WORLD?
What have they done to the seas, my friend?
What have they done to the seas?
What have they done to the rivers, my friend?
What have they done to the rivers?
Well, they’ve turned all the seas into mud, my friend,
And they’ve killed all the fish in those seas.
And they’ve poured out their oil and their waste, my friend,
Because they think they can do as they please.
They’ve built their cities And they’ve made their roads
And they’ll test their bombs
Till the world explodes Into millions of little pieces.
What have they done to our land, my friend?
This land which is ours from our birth.
What have they done to our forests, my friend?
What have they done to the earth?
Well, they’ve turned our land to a desert, my friend,
A desert of concrete and stone,
And they’ve done this for profit and gain, my friend,
Till they’ve ruined the earth that we own.
What have they done to the skies, my friend?
Skies that are blue and so clear.
What have they done to the skies, my friend?
What have they done to the air?
Well, they’ve poured out their smoke and their fumes, my friend,
Till you can’t see the sun in the sky.
And they’ve poisoned the air that we breathe, my friend,
Till you cough, till you choke, till you die.
Follow-up.
