Teacher: Good morning, girls and boys! Nice to meet you.

Рs:Good morning to you!

Good morning to you!

We’re all in our places

With sun shiny faces

Good morning to you!

Good morning to you!

Teacher: I hope you are fine and ready to work. We have an unusual lesson today. Many guests are visiting our lesson. Dear guests, we are glad to welcome you to our English lesson.

Today we are going to speak about our mothers.

II. Warming up.  Pronunciation drill

Teacher: let’s remember the English sounds [s] \ [ʃ]

[ʃ]      A mother to her son did utter “Go, my son, and shut the shutter.”

“The shutter’s shut” the son did utter “I cannot shut it any shutter!”

[s]       I saw Susie sitting in a shoe shine shop. Where she sits she shines, and

            where she  shines she sits.

Teacher: Mother's Day in Britain is the second Sunday in May. In the United States and Canada Mother's Day is also the second Sunday in May.

Most mothers like to celebrate this day with the whole family. Many people send their mothers a card or a gift. Some people take their mothers to a restaurant for dinner. It is a time when children pay respect to their Mothers. All the children, little or adult ones, come to their mothers on that day to express their love. It's a way of saying: "Thanks for being such a great Mom!"

III. Speaking practice

Teacher: We are going to listen to the poems about your moms and grannies

you’ve prepared at home.

P1: The sun is so bright today

Because it is the Mother`s Day

The sky is so blue today

Because it is the Mother`s Day.

Our Mums are so nice today

We wish them “Happy Mother`s Day!”

P2: My Dear Mummy"

My dear, dear Mummy,

Let me kiss your face,

I want you to be happy

Today and always!

Be happy, be happy

Today and always!

Be happy, be happy

Today and always!

P3: I am mother's little pet,

Yes, that's me;

And my hair is very black

As you can see.

I try to be as good as gold

And nearly always do.

P4: I never have a special day

To give flowers to my mother:

I give them to her everu day

To show how much I love her!

P5: I know a face, a lovely face

As full of beauty as of grace,

A face of pleasure and of smile.

In darkness it gives light.

A face that is itself like joy,

To see it I’m a happy boy.

And i have a joy that have no other:

This lovely woman is my mother.

P6: Help your mother

To lay the table

With a fork, a knife, a spoon

Help your mother

To lay the table

Every afternoon.

Teacher: When do you usually get up? Do you like to go to school?

Now let's find out if Kate likes to go to school or not.

(Dramatization of the story "Sleepy Kate")

Mother:    Dear Kate! Don't be late!

Wake up! It's seven o'clock sharp!

Kate:   Oh, Mummy, dear!

I can hardly hear what you say.

Please let me stay in my bed.

I'm a  sleepy head.

Mother:   Sleepy Kate! You are late.

Get up! It's eight o'clock sharp!

Kate:   Oh, Mummy, please, leave me in peace.

My eyes are shut. I can't get up.

Mother:   Lazy Kate! I can't wait!

Please get up! It's nine o'clock sharp!

Kate:   It's Monday today. Such a difficult day!

I'm so stressed and a bit depressed,

And I need some rest to be at my best.

Mother:   Shameless Kate! Listen what I say!

It's nearly nine and a quarter!

I'll bring a bucket of water and pour it out of pail

As all my words and actions fail.

Kate:   Please, don't, don't, don't!

It's time for me to go.

                                  Mother’s Day in Great Britain

In many places around the world people celebrate Mothers’ day on various days because the day has a number of different origins.

In Britain there is also a holiday which people call Mother's Day.

In the old days many girls from poor families in the country worked in rich houses. They did all the house work and their working day was usually very long. They often

worked on Sundays, too. Once a year, it was usually a Sunday in March, they could visit their mothers. They went home on that day and brought presents for their mothers and for other members of their families. They could stay at home only one day and then they went back to their work. People called that day Mothering Day or Mothering Sunday.

Later workers at the factories and girls who worked in the houses of rich families received one free day a week, and Mothering Day became Mother's Day.

On that day sons and daughters visit their mothers and bring them flowers and presents. The eldest son must bring his mother a good cake. If sons or daughters cannot be with their mother on that day, they usually send her presents. Mother's Day must be a day of rest for the mother of the family, so her daughters cook the dinner on that day and the sons help to wash the dishes.

Now Mother's Day in Britain is the second Sunday in May. In the United States and Canada Mother's Day is also the second Sunday in May.

Post – reading activity

-Where did the girls from poor families work?

-What day could they visit their mothers?

-How did people call that day?

-When do people celebrate Mother's Day in Great Britain?

-How do people celebrate this holiday in the UK?

-How do children respect their mothers on that day?

-When do they celebrate Mother's Day in the USA and Canada?

-What is the difference between celebrating Mother's Day in English-speaking countries and in Ukraine?

IV.  Time for refreshment.

Teacher:I think it’s a good time for you to relax and sing a song «Thank you Jesus for my Mom»! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHUCtlM5OUo

Thank you Jesus for my mum

In this new millenium

And thank you for the times to come

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you mum

Refrain: La la la la la la

Thank you Jesus for my mum

Cheers me up when I am glum

Helps with homework (does my sums)

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you mum

Refrain:

Thank you Jesus for my mum

Keeps me clean and fills my turn

Cleans my sneakers (though they hum)

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you mum

Refrain:

Thank you Jesus for my mum

Thinks I'm an angel (but she's wrong)

Sees my good points, when there's none

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you mum

Teacher: Now it is time for playing. Your task is to put the questions about your moms. (Учні об'єднуються в дві команди і по черзі ставлять запитання суперникам про маму. За кожне правильнe запитання команда отримує 1 бал.)

E.g.  What is your mother's name?

-How old is your mother?

-Where does your mother like to go?

-What colour are your mom's eyes?

-What present does your mom prefer?

-Does your mom like animals?

-What perfume does your mom like?

-What does your mom like to do about the house?

-Does your mom like modern music?

-Who is her favourite singer?

-What is your mom's favourite meal?

Teacher: Now I want you to tell some words about your moms or grannies.

( На дошці  малюнки дітей – портрети мам, бабусь)

Pupils show the pictures of their moms and grannies and tell about them in such way: My mom's (granny's) name is... She is (age). She is tall (short). Her hair is dark(fair). Her eyes are (colour). My mom is pretty. She takes care of me and family. She cooks meals. My dearest person is always in good mood. I love my mom very much.

E.g.  I'd like to tell you about my granny. She`s sixty, her hair is short and grey. She`s very kind all the time she`s happy every day.  She`s always   nice. I think that you can see, I love my grandma very much, and I know that she loves me.

P1- P2- P3…

At the end of the lesson the students sing the song  "Happy Mother's Day to You"

(To the tune of "Happy Birthday")

 Happy Mother's Day to you.

 Happy Mother's Day to you.

 Happy Mother's Day, dear Mommy,

 Happy Mother's Day to you!
