PROCEDURE OF THE LESSON
I.INTRODUCTION
T: Hello! You look great today! Dear friends! The topic of our lesson is “A Healthy Family Lifestyle“. We are going to speak about families and relations between the members of the family.
2. Warming-up
T: Look at the family album and say how healthy these family lifestyles look to you. What is typical of your family lifestyle?
Ss’ possible answers:
S1: On the first picture we can see all the family members are riding bikes together. We like to do the same. When the weather permits all of us take bikes and ride around our village.
S2: My family likes having dinner together. When somebody of my parents comes first, mum or dad becomes preparing tasty meal. In the evening everybody helps to lay the table and we enjoy our meal.
S3: We have a big garden near our house and very often my parents, sister and I do the gardening. In spring we dig around the trees, white them, cut the branches. In autumn we gather in the harvest of apples, pears, cherries apricots, plums and other fruit. I like nature very much and I’m fond of spending time outside.
S4: On weekends my family likes going to a cafe or to McDonald’s. In such a way we spend time together, discuss our problems, share our ideas, give advice or ask for help.
II. MAIN PART
1.Brainstormig
T: Today’s lifestyle doesn’t allow much room for health. Look through the information about 10 small steps and say which of them you would like to take in order to change your family’s life. Practice the intonation of imperative sentences.

2.Group work
T.: Now students make three groups, give your ideas about 10 bad habits and write them on the sheets of paper. Read them, please. Let’s generalize all of these bad habits and choose the worst ones.
(Students write bad habits on the sheets of paper in groups, then one of the pupils reads them. After reading the students choose the worst ones.)

3.Reading and discussion
Pre-reading tasks:
3.1. Discussing
T.: I’m sure that everybody likes their families. Your parents take care of you and love you as well. They teach you all good things: to be polite, to help them in doing some things, to be honesty, to be friendly with everyone, to be generous and so on. To my mind happy family means to follow healthy way of life, spend much time together and understand each other properly. What do you think about the expression “happy family”? How can you explain it?
Students give the definitions to this expression.
T.: Oh, your ideas are very interesting! Thanks.
3.2. Watching video
T.: Now, let’s watch the video and compare with your ideas. Maybe you find some interesting facts about happy family.
(The students are watching video, then discussing. https://youtube.com.FamiliesCan BeTogether; https://www.youtube.com.DoFamilyActivitiesinBali).
READING
T: Great, my dear! Now you are going to read some extracts. What do the health educators from different countries say about healthy family lifestyles? Make a list of do’s and don’ts they suggest.
Promoting a Healthy Family Lifestyle
HO2
Group 1 Promoting a Healthy Family Lifestyle Matthew Hendison, the UK With the nationwide obesity epidemic being front page news and decreasing school programs and safety concerns at all time highs, it is more important than ever for parents to “get involved” and make exercise and fitness an integral part of their family’s life. Kids who participate in regular fitness activities, be it in a structured exercise curriculum of an indoor gym program, or as a member of a sport team, acquire the skills, confidence and positive self-image needed to become healthy young adults. |

Group 2 Promoting a Healthy Family Lifestyle Dr. Renna, the USA Lead by example when it comes to your family’s health and nutrition habits. Your kids will watch your healthy practices and aspire to do as you do. One way to start is by keeping your fridge stocked with fresh fruit and veggies, and limiting junk food that’s available in the house. That’s an easy way to ensure the whole family stays on track for good nutrition. Have the whole family lend a hand during mealtime. It can be an important bonding time, and also a great way to reinforce the importance of making healthy choices. If you have a picky eater, have him or her choose one vegetable from 4-5 choices that you provide to incorporate into the meal. This gives the child a sense of control as you gradually change their old habits. Provide vegetables every day or so for 2 weeks, which will eventually enable your child’s taste buds to get used to this new food. Plan family vacations centered on activity, such as skiing or skating in the winter months, and swimming, hiking or bike riding during the warmer months. |
HO4
Group 3 Promoting a Healthy Family Lifestyle Sally Jackson, Canada We are bombarded every day with conflicting information about our health. Is it better to eat a low-carb diet or a balanced diet? Should we be physically active three times a week or five times a week? And how can we be expected to follow any of these recommendations when we’re always so busy? It’s no wonder that many of us throw up our hands and give up. But if want to live long and fulfilling lives, it’s essential that we learn the real facts about health, nutrition, and physical activity. |
Post- reading tasks:
1.Completing the table.
T.: Now students go to the blackboard and write the suggests in turn.
The table is written on the blackboard. One student from each group goes to the blackboard and writes the suggests of the health educators.

2. Making sentences using reported speech.
T.: Very good! Now, students, let’s make sentences using reported speech. Don’t forget to follow the sequence of tenses. Look at the verbs, which help to make English better. Remember the synonyms to the verbs “to say”, ”to ask”, and “to tell” and use them in your sentences.
to say |
to ask |
to tell (commands orders) |
to be afraid to repeat to relate to shout to cry to know to murmur to utter to offer to suggest to advise to recommend to suppose to learn out to guess to exclaim to wisper to hiss to pronounce to articulate to proclaim to answer to reply to report to clear out to object to deny to protest to complain to displease to hesitate to hate to prove to believe |
to inquire to make sure to clear up to find out to question to interrogate to examine to demand to raise to seek an answer to quiz |
to tell to insist to order to ask to beg to let to call to declare to imagine to introduce |
S.1: Dr. Matthew Hendison from the UK suggests that parents must “get involved” and make exercise and fitness an integral part of their family’s life. He persuaded that kids had to participate in regular fitness activities to become healthy young adults.
S.2: Dr. Renna from the USA insists on family’s health and nutrition habits. She advises keeping the fridge stocked with fresh fruit and veggies, and limiting junk food. The expert utters to provide vegetables every day or so for 2 weeks and have the whole family lend a hand during mealtime. Also she recommends to plan family vacations centered on activity. Etc.
3. Provocation questions. Speaking.
T.: I agree with Sally Jackson from Canada. She proves that we are always busy and could throw up our hands and give up. Your parents are always busy with the work and keeping house in order. You are always busy with the studying at school and at home as well. We have a lack of time to prepare diet meals, we often have a snack at work or at school. It seems to me it’s difficult to follow healthy way of life. And it’s the easiest way to eat junk food.
S.1: I have to deny. If your parents keeping the healthy way of life, you can’t eat junk food! The family’s health and nutrition habits influences you greatly! Our mum always cooks different delicious meal, especially salads in summer. We enjoy eating and often help her in cooking.
S.2: I agree with my classmate. I can confess that the members of my family often spend time together. We like to go on picnics and there is no matter what the weather is like. Simply we enjoy being together!
S.3: There is a big problem being together in my family, because my father is often on his business abroad. But when he comes back home we have a great holiday during a week in the Carpathian mountains, or go to the seaside in summer.
S.4: It’s a pity but my family doesn’t have health and nutrition habits. My father is smoking a lot, drinks alcohol with his friends, because he comes from his work tied. He explains that it helps him to relax and to be in a good mood. My mum works hard at work and comes home late. I often cook food myself, because there are six children in our family. They are younger than me and I must take care of them. Etc.
4. Giving Advice.
T.: Good, students. I see some of you have problems. Let’s give some advises to people who want to change their life. Go to the blackboard and complete the table writing a piece of advice in the appropriate column.
Eating habits |
Physical Activity |
Stay clear of tobacco and alcohol! Healthy nutrition must be a part of your regular routine! Eat more food with calcium. Don’t eat late at night! Drink much water! |
Always take part in doing physical work. Go or walk to school or work. Promote healthy lifestyle! Follow basic principles abd be healthy! |
5. Grammar
T.: Use the suggestions of the health experts and give some advises using modal verb should and expression It would be better.
S.1: You should stay clear of tobacco and alcohol.
