Exercise 1: Look at these types of books and say which of these books you need if you want to:

  1. find some information about the world in general
  2. find out a holiday destination
  3. read an exciting and not true story
  4. find an interesting recipe
  5. read all about a famous person in his own words
  6. read about a famous person in someone’s words
  7. find out how to use your machine
  8. write about your daily life
  9. read something beautifully written in few words

 

Exercise 2: Make up sentences and say what books are usually read by children, by grown-ups, by teenagers.

 Discuss the books you have read. Use the following clues.

- The book is...

(interesting and easy to read, full of in­formation about...).

- What makes this book so popular is that...

(the events described in the book are all true, it raises your interest in..., it is the type of book that makes you think, it shows real life to the reader).

- The book is so interesting (popular) be­cause...

(it is a very truthful story; it makes easy, interesting reading; the author de­scribed the adventures/characters/rela­tions between the heroes/atmosphere of the time with great skill; it gives the impression of reality/wonder).

- As for me, I prefer... (stories based on real life/excellent ad­venture stories/amusing stories  for light, easy reading).
