Subtopic: Choose your future career

Type of the lesson: combined lesson (sub skill: vocabulary; skill: reading)

Objectives: - Practical (to present new vocabulary items, to teach using new vocabulary items in some situations, to improve the students’ abilities to predict the content of the information they are going to read about, to practice reading skills till the lesson);

                   - Educational (to provide information about some kinds of professions in Ukraine, to inform about some skills which need in every kind of profession);

                   - Developmental (to develop memory of students, to develop communicative skills, to develop attention);

                   - Affective (to teach pupils respect other people’s ideas and attitudes).

Equipment: blackboard, chalk, books, Work Books, cards (HO1, HO2, HO3).

 

Procedure

I. The beginning of the lesson

 

1. Greeting

T: Good morning, children!

Ps: Good morning, teacher!

 

2. Warm-up

Бесіда в режимі T→P1→P2→P3.

T: At what age do people usually begin to work in Ukraine?

At what age do people usually retire?

Do women usually work after they get married in our country?

How much do you think a doctor/secretary/driver/lawyer, etc. should be paid a month?

Do you think it is more important to make a lot of money or to enjoy your job?

 

3. Introducing the topic

T: The topic of today’s lesson is a choice of a career. You’ll read a text from which you’ll find out what factors you should consider while choosing a job; besides, today you’ll learn and practice some new words denoting jobs and professions.

 

II. Main part

 

1. Vocabulary presentation

1.1 Presentation

Please, look at your vocabulary list. I will show you the pictures that represent some of these words, which means some kinds of professions. Repeat them after me. Write down the translation if it’s necessary.

Now, look at the card with words. Find and circle the correct variant of the translation of the following words. You have two minutes to do it.

1) Впр. 5 (с. 150). Учні в групах по троє-четверо обговорюють обов’язки представників різних професій.

T: Read how to use the words career, job, profession, occupation, and complete the sentences in your workbooks.

2) WB, впр. 2 (с. 68). Учні в парах «розшифровують» назви професій. Учитель контролює правильність виконання завдань.

3) WB, впр. 3 (с. 69). Учні самостійно складають речення за зразком і записують їх у робочі зошити. Наприкінці уроку вчитель збирає зошити на перевірку.

At home you had to make up the questions to representatives of different professions. Have a minute to revise your remarks and be ready to reproduce them.

 

2. Reading. Впр. 1 (с. 148).

 

1) Pre-Reading Activity.

Етап підготовки до читання. Презентація лексичного матеріалу тексту. Учні отримують картки (НО2), «розшифровують» слова і поєднують їх з відповідними визначеннями. Учитель перевіряє правильність відповідей.

Етап читання. Учні самостійно читають текст і знаходять відповіді на запитання до нього.

3) Post-Reading Activity.

Етап перевірки розуміння змісту тексту.

а) Бесіда за запитаннями до тексту. Учні усно відповідають на запитання на ст. 148. Учитель стежить за правильністю відповідей.

б) Впр. 2 (с. 150). Учні доповнюють речення, користуючись текстом впр. 1 (с. 148), а потім ланцюжком їх читають. Учитель стежить за правильністю речень.

в) Впр. 3 (с. 150). Учні в парах обговорюють подані запитання, а потім ланцюжком висловлюються щодо них. Учитель контролює правильність граматичної будови речень.
