Topic: “Me and My Friend”
Level BEGINNER
Aims: 1) to develop skills of telling personal information and describing appearance;
2) to develop speaking skills;
3) to develop memory, logical thinking, critical thinking, creativity, attention;
4) to bring up respectful attitude to other students, tolerance in cooperation.
Equipment: cards for personal information, draft pictures of a boy and a girl, video, laptop, whiteboard.
Procedure.
T: Let`s look at each other very attentively and move around playing the game. Each student gets a card with the task: Find someone who…. Write down the names of students when you move around the classroom searching.
Sample tasks: Find someone who has blue\brown eyes.
Find someone who has long\short curly hair.
Find someone who has black\blond straight hair.
Find someone who wears blue\black jeans.
Find someone who wears a dress.
Find someone who wears white trainers. Etc.
When the teacher gives the signal, students stop and take their seats. Every student reports about the results of his\her search.
Activity 1. “Personal card”
T: So, as you understand we`ll describe each other and tell about our friends today. What is the main information about any person?
S: The main information includes full name, age, nationality and form for students.
T: That`s right. So, please, make a personal card for your friend with this information and introduce your friend to the group (pair work when students ask-answer and complete the card form)
Example: S1: Meet my friend. Her full name is Maria Shevchenko. She is ten. She is from Ukraine. She is in the 5th form.
Activity 2. “Character”
T: Now let`s learn some new words to describe the character of your friend. Look at the presentation and speak about your friend.
Example: I think that my friend is kind because he always helps other people. (friendly\merry\strong\clever\pretty\active)
Now add information about the friend`s character into the boxes of the personal card.
Activity 3. Sing and dance to the song “Hello everyone”
Activity 4. “Appearance”
Students stand back to back and describe each other`s appearance.
Example: S1: My friend is a tall slim boy. He has short blond straight hair and big blue eyes. He wears glasses. Today he is wearing a blue T-shirt, dark blue jeans and white trainers.
Then students complete coloring the draft picture of a boy\girl.
T explains the home assignment (to tell all information about a friend including the character and appearance without using the personal card).
